    Building your own website

The thread on how to set up your own website and make it successful, I shall probably add to it every few days.
Okay we got a load of members with websites, some of these websites are complete shite, but we also have quite a few members that are building and running really good informative websites that are getting the traffic, the only thing that will earn you money on the internet is traffic, whether you stick google adverts or private adverts on there you need traffic to actually click on those adverts.
Anyway hopefully some of the more experienced webmasters will chip in here with a few tips on what not to do and what to do without exposing too many of their secrets, yes that means you frankie etc.

Right, first off is your domain name, if you own "Lek Taxi Service" in Bangkok you really don't want to buy lektaxiservice.com, your domain name is one of your strongest features on the search engines, it really does count for a lot and you do need people to find your website easily and fast, so what would people in Bangkok search for when looking for a taxi service?

"Bangkok Taxi" and variations on that theme, so lets say "Bangkok Taxi" has already gone, you maybe be able to get the hyphenated version, or hell, just go for LekBangkokTaxi.com, in that domain name you have the words "Taxi" and "Bangkok" so all going well you should be on that first google search page when the time comes and that search is done.

Hopefully somebody will post about headers and stuff like that next to help get groups of what you consider important words onto that first page of google.

Sure. A good domain is first step, afterwards you need to do onpage and offpage seo (search engine optimization).

Onpage seo is the easy part. Make sure your website contain several pages of content and remember to mention the keywords you want to rank for in the content.

In addition, you should mention the keywords in your title tag and in headers/subheaders. The headers should be in <h1>/<h2> tags.

Each page should concentrate on one or two keywords. Only exception to this rule is the title tag on the main page (since the main page is usually much stronger than the subpages).

If you want to rank for "Bangkok Taxi", you might for example go for something like this:

    bangkokairporttaxi.com (it's free)

Title: Bangkok Aiport Taxi | Bangkok Water Taxi | Bangkok Taxi Fare *
    H1: Bangkok Airport Taxi
H2: Bangkok Water Taxi, Bangkok Taxi Fare

    *) keyword ideas from https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
    - "bangkok airport taxi" get more searches than the two other keywords, so that's the one we concentrate on (+ of course "bangkok taxi", which is part of the "bangkok airport taxi" keyword)

Let's see if someone wants to continue with offpage seo...

    Do subdomains help?

    I just registered photoimpressionen.com

Initially I wanted something with Berlin in it, but then decided on something more neutral that does not limit my activities to Berlin.

I could create a subdomain berlin.

No ads are planned but a few hits woud be nice to make the effort worthwhile. Anyway still some time until good content will be online.

Im bored, when I get bored I get stupid ideas like starting even more blogs. Ive just started another one on Wordpress but the free service is a bit limited on the design side so Ive got it into my head to make it a site of it own so I can piss around with it in the belief that Im doing something constructive while earning absolutely bugger all from it.

Im not bothered about making it a .com so what other TLD would be good for a blog?

I forgot about this thread, I had it all planned, I even downloaded a free template which looks quite smart, no idea of how badly it is coded but it does look nice
I shall start on it this week as I have way too many parked domains and we can see how badly it fails, or maybe even a mediocre rise to success, or how badly I can fuk up the coding so it doesn't display in any browser at all

A subdomain or "Berlin" in the url helps, although I think I read somewhere that google is thinking of disregarding urls and url rewrites, then again I may have dreamed it and if they did disregard urls most webmasters would start saying yahoo is the dogsbolloxs to everyone they could and googles market share would come down, probably best to put it down to me dreaming about that.
