    ipod advice needed

I use a laptop and have for sake of space moved all my music onto an external hard drive, I have kept some on the laptop for everyday use.

    So far so good. But...

This morning when I tried to sync up my ipod, it says there isnt enough space to hold all the music which is BS. In total I have about 20Gb of music and what the ipod seemed to be doing is adding the original 15Gb to the 20Gb. It isnt replacing it so it says there isnt enough space.

I managed to delete the existing files off the ipod and went off to work with it synching along merrily ( I thought )

Ive come home to find out that its almost done the same. Its saying I need 31Gb of space and only have 27Gb available on the ipod. But when I look at the properties of my music folder its got only 20Gb in it!!!

    AAARRRGGGHHHHH!

I am doing something stupid or is it the ipod?

( and yes, in the itunes, Edit, Preferences, Advanced I am pointing at the correct folder. )

    Any help would be appreciated!
You dont pay them to stay for the night, you pay them to leave in the morning

In iTunes, click on 'file' and scroll down to 'show duplicates', then you'll see and be able to delete any songs that are on it twice.

iTunes kept the link to the files you moved, and you probably set up iTunes to sync ALL music to your iPod.

Do yourself a favor, and create a couple of playlists of songs that you would like to have on your iPod, and set iTunes up to sync those playlists ONLY.

Then, it doesn't matter how much music you have on your laptop, your iPod will only sync the playlists you tell it to, via iTunes...

I think you can delete you itunes library(not the actual music files), then just re add folder with all your music on new drive, pick what you want and sync

He'll lose his playlists if he has any.
