    New Printer

If this ain't the right place, move it if ya want.
But my wife is hard on printers, plus her kid does a heap of printing in her school work.
We have gone thru a dozen printers, mine even went bad because I don't use it ofter and it wouldn't print so took it back to the shop and got the same reply as we always do, "the ink holder went tits up"
Now these are Cannon printers. mine was a pixma some numbers, and the wifes last one was a fancy printer/copy/fax/scanner,, spendy bastid and they said the same thing with every printer we have taken in to be fixed, "Ink tank holder is tits up"

So she came in with a new one friday, and now it is not a factory setup for sure, sumbitch is on a thin ply wood, with 4 ink tanks outside on the right hand end and glued to it and the board, and an extra bottle with a hose glued at the right rear corner for waste ink, there is a siamese 4 hose link that runs from the tanks into the inside of the machine.
It just appears to be to neat to have been built by a Thai, but it damn sure don't look factory either..

Sounds like you got a printer with a bulk ink tank fitted.

Do you need to do colour prints ?
I am pissed off with printers, I have a pile of broken ones.
Next time around I will get a B&W laser printer, the prices have dropped dramatically.
My friend bought one for 5k baht and now they are only 2k baht.

We have an HP Laserjet 1010. It's three years old and performs like a champ. It was cheap. We've yet to replace the toner cartridge.

If you don't need color, it's the way to go. The price per page is way below that of an inket printer.

This printer does not have Mac drivers, but the Gutenprint drivers work just fine.

Me too. I rarely print in color and if I do I simply take the files to a print shop and have them print. The cost of color cartridges and the crap quality of the printers is not a cost effective choice. Laser color printers are good but too damn expensive.

    Exactly.
A set of cartridges for my printer costs about 1500baht
A new B&W laser printer will cost me 2000baht and will be good for 10k copies.

I got a Brother HL1430 LJ, had it about 4+ yrs, do quite a lot of printing on for the kids school stuff, the Toner cart seems to go for ever.
Not a single problem with it.
Agree that for the small amount of colour stuff most people do it much easier just to put that stuff on a CD and go to a print shop.

Will check out new Brother models. Probably cheaper now than 4 years ago given the way all this techie stuff goes.

My brothers wife bought three lexmark colour inkjets in Tescos back home

She throws them out when the ink runs out.

I think they cost 12 or 6 quid each. Probably 6 to make them that cheap to throw out

It is an inkjet, all I have ever owned was an inkjet, used to get refils a dozen at a time online for about 1/4 cost as my jyoung daughter liked to print all her software [edu CDs] and make books when I was still in the states, but since I came here and after my first cannon was a year or so old seems like the Tech shops are the ones that are fucking me big time.

I killed it! I rarely loose it like that!

After fussing with a POS Brother all in one fax--printer for a number of years; this morning after spending 25 minutes trying to print one page I finally gave up and repeatedly smashed the mofo on the floor.
I can now leave it next to the dumpster were it belongs.
The only thing that kept me from throwing it off my 18th floor balcony was the obvious peril I might be putting others in.
I would have loved to see the focker drop 18 floors.

Just in case you didn't already know don't ever buy one of these POS all in one machines. It's was a source of considerable aggravation.

^Agreed. My Mom had an HP AIO (All In One). A tiny little plastic thingy in the print head carriage broke rendering the printing part useless. So, she bought a printer only box. But, she still has the huge AIO on her desk so that she can continue to use the scanner.

    Don't buy an AIO...

^ We've got another printer and scanner. I'll try connecting them to my PC, as the new one is connected to the Thai lass's PC and I can't work out the bladdy wireless office network thingy.

I hate printers. The first HP was good until I took it in for Thai repairs. Had two other HPs after that. Got a Canon x something scanner/printer free with my desktop here. Kindergarten material.
Anyway, I used to get black ink refill kits at Panthip for about Bt150. Lasted a long time, just a bit messy until you get the gist of refilling the cartridge. (only do it outside where you don't have to clean up or repaint the walls; keep Fido away)
Fek, with the price of ink these days in Canada, may as well buy a whole new printer.
