At some of you know, I'm an online TEFLer, so background noise is always a problem. To combat this, my primary mic is an Audio Technica AT2050 with a superb cardiod pattern/high pass filter that eliminates background noise, no problem.

However, it requires a preamp/phantom power amp which makes it a bit unwieldly when traveling. As I'm planning to visit BKK in the near future, I thought I'd get a usb mic that was more travel friendly, so I got a Shure MV7 that's both XLR and USB so I could have the best of both worlds. However the Shure mic's noise cancellation is at best, non-existent, despite the many youtube vids I watched. It picks up the noise of the A/C quite well, I must admit.

So I've spent the last few days dicking around with audio editing software trying to get rid of the background noise using the Shure mic while teaching. I was watching a video on OBS and the guy mentioned an app called Krisp that's designed to block common household noises, like kids crying, dogs barking and roosters doing their thing (the Issan edition is an upgrade).

I've tested it and it works great. $100US/year is a bit dear, but not having to learn audio engineering is worth the price.

Hope it helps!
