    Which DELL computer?

So, work is going to give me a new computer. At the moment my choice is between a Dell Optiplex 5090 Small form, or a Dell Precision 3450.

One is apparently a 'workstation" while the other is a desk top. No f*cking idea on the difference between a desktop and a workstation.

Any input on which of the two would be better?

    TIA

The 3450 will have a Quadro GPU.

What work do you intend on doing with it ?

Some big data set analysis and stats. Other than that mainly adobe stuff (illustrator, photoshop), plus the normal microsoft stuff.

    Preferably something fast.

I'd go the Precision, better GPU for the adobe stuff.

Depends which spec you are getting.

Precision 3450 Small Form Factor, comes with the i5/8gb RAM/256gb SSD hard drive, i7/16gb RAM/512gb SSD hard drive, i9/16gb RAM/512gb SSD hard drive
    Access Denied

OptiPlex 5090 Tower and Small Form Factor ... you can read the specs here ... Access Denied

Find out what models are on offer.

Yes, you didn't click the link.

The 'Precision 3450 Small Form Factor' is a offering for 4 different computers of differing specs.

The Precision 3450 Small Form Factor is not one computer, but a a base around which the specs can change.

Ditto the OptiPlex 5090 Tower and Small Form Factor

^ To be honest, it does not look like any of them. Some specs match one model, some specs match a different model. Had a look at the others (there are 8). For example they all apparently have a 10th Generation Intel Core (or a Xenon), but my specs show an 11th Generation Intel Core i5-11500.

    Buggered if I know.

You need to find out the exact specs of the models that your employer is offering. Both of those platforms have multiple configuration options. If you give me two lists of specs, I can tell you which is best.
