    Me computer keeps crashing. -_-

An older unit that isn't used much.

    i3
    12gb ram
    3.1ghz
    Win 7, presumably dodgy.

    Plenty of space on C.

Keeps on crashing, freezing up, even with nothing running.

(when right click for the properties of the computer icon)

    No strange sounds.

The specs should be fine for youtube, videos, trol... giving friendly advice online, etc. No programs used.

Sent a message to a few shops I've dealt with in the past about getting a bodgy version of Win 10 (i3, 3.10ghz and 12gig Ram should be fine for it), but they've gone cold on copies for some reason (guess it's one of those times they've gotta watch out for doing that kinda thing).

So. Can try to fix it.

Or can download a Win 10 torrent and try to install it. Never done that before.

And see if that fixes it.

Any ideas about how to maybe fix it?

I've already turned it off and on again, called it names, cleaned it with CCleaner, Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, antivirus etc, invited it out for a meal + cocktails, etc.

Come on Mr Bitcoin. Just toss it and move on. It's a consumable. Get a new Dell. It's not worth the reliability concern.

I have to make sure it's fully cleaned first.

    ^ My thoughts too.

It's actually for the kid who's now into Scratch and Python, and if they're a chip off the old block will start smashing it when a line of coding doesn't work. Will get a kick out of having their own PC and will hopefully be glued to it in the evenings and not annoying me.

How hard is installing a torrented Win 10?

Or a preferable 1st step of somehow finding out what the issue is?

No need to torrent, just download it straight from Microsoft.

    Download Windows 10

Then use this. Don't worry, it is not an error.

I'd check the RAM is okay first. There is a memory checker on Windows 7 so you can use that without installing anything. Might also be overheating, can you open the back and give it a blast with compressed air.

Especially focus on the fan that cools the CPU on the motherboard.

The fan rarely comes on, so don't think it's overheating.

    But....

    Is this good or bad?

BAD. Firstly, look under the fan. The heatsink is fully clogged with dust. Hit that with canned air. Secondly, the CPU fan should never shut off, so it is not working properly. That is the problem.

    Superbio.

At least I think it usually isn't on. Maybe it's the rear fan. Will check it out, cheers.

Oh my, you are still in baby wipe mode? No, you will need to use air to clean that out.

    Still the same.

Odd as Task Manager shows 2 out 12 GB, and around 10% CPU being used.

It finally launched the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool, rebooted, ran it, and:

So what else could it be?

Sounds more like a software issue than a hardware issue?

Did you do anything recently? New software, drivers, Windows Update?

You could try going back to a previous Restore Point.

But better to fuck it off and install Windows 10, it has the resources.

But not Windows 11 as it probably won't support it.
