So - Windows 11 - Are You Switching?

I'm thinking about loading Windows 11 on my laptop. What's the general consensus on the upgrade? It's a damn shame Butters isn't here anymore to give his advice.

I've been using it on previews for a few months.

I like it. It isn't that drastic a redesign.

But it is a bit fussy about what it needs to run.

According to the Microsoft site, every vulnerability they discover in Windows 7 is no longer getting fixed unless you pay, either.

If it's cheaper than me 300 baht Windows 10, I'll give it a go.

Nah, none of my PCs are "compatible" with the win11 crap, so I'm sticking with what I've got (win7 & win10), but have installed Linux, too, just in case some win updates go tits up (like they did once, a while ago) and maybe I'll even get to like Linux. At this point in time I've absolutely no use for the many win11 extras - and can manage very well on the 'old' OSs.

Screw M$ - tho might just unscrew again if I buy a new PC in the next 10 years or so (which ain't likely)

My wife consulted with the monks at our local Wat, and was told that 11 is not a lucky number and we should wait for windows 19.

The update still hasn't been offered on my laptop, the bitches. It's a Chinese made Ryzen 7 made thing so Microsoft probably won't offer it until they're sure my laptop isn't being used by the Chinese government to steal secrets.

If your laptop is working fine now, why run the risk of having something go wrong by screwing around with it ? Sure as eggs some damn thing will get deleted, lost, etc etc

There was an issue with the L3 cache running Win11 on Ryzen chips.
The fix should be out 21 October.

My first computer was a CPM system, since then I have seen operating systems come and go. There was a time that I use to know all there was to know about them, now all I want them to do is let me surf the web, type a letter, save a few files and pictures, and print some documents,
Win 10 does all these things relatively well, and an upgrade to win 11 will not IMO improve what I do significantly enough to warrant the risk an upgrade would present to my aging system and brain.
    No Thanks!!

It must be age....I feel that way not only about my computer, but my cars as well. Years ago I used to enjoy working on them, but nowadays I just enjoy the driving experience, the occasional fiddle with some minor gizmo or the satisfaction of saving money by doing something semi-complex myself, and I have a low-performance model that will last a looooong time.

Well, two of them, same as my computers. Gotta be prepared for breakdowns.

Same here, there was a time when I knew everything about cars, anda lot about computers, I even build a couple of deck top computers.
    Now....
When we came here from the US, we sold our SUV to CaroMax, I honestly did not even know what size engine it had, all I knew was that it drove nice. Same for my laptop, have no idea how much ram it has or type of processor, I guess I knew when I bought it, but I no longer remember or care to look. It does what I want it to do, and that's good enough for me.

So I looked, actually there is a sticker on the laptop that says , DDR4 , have no idea what that means, and Intel core i3 , is that good? it does not sound good, as I think someone else mentioned i7 as inadequate.
perhaps that explains all the misspelled word in my posts.

Does it run Office? That is literally the only reason I use windows. When Subzero existed, it was all done on Ubuntu.

Just watched the demo, I might put that on my desktop just for fun.
