No I have not Topper. However that's because I have Samsung TV's with internet capability and also have wireless direct connect from Phone to TV. I used my S9 and current S20 connected to my TV to look at Drone vids and pictures. Very nice technology and convenient.

I would take up the offer of an S9+ but I'm not in Thailand at the moment. Trying my hardest to get back though. I am getting quotes for shipping our stuff back this week. Date of shipment depends on covid rules but I'm not spending another winter in Germany.

Amazon is a pig with deciding on phone because I can't trust it will be genuine not grey product and with usual guarantee. Any suggestions or am I being paranoid?

Dunno if it’s the same in Yermany but in the states Amazon is extremely reliable and returns are piss easy and instant. Plus if you buy from “Amazon” and not a 3rd party then you’re golden.

Over the last few years I've bought quite a lot from Amazon, both the US and UK sites. I've found them to be reliable in terms of the quality and authenticity of the products they offer, and when shipping overseas, the detailed breakdown of costs inclusive of courier customs duty are efficient. For approximately 50% of my purchases, within a couple of weeks of delivery I get a refund for over estimating the customs due. Their courier tracking links are also very good. I don't begrudge Bezos one cent of his billions.

Samsung a32. About 5-6000 baht. Does everything an iPhone can do, except have you running around for non standard cables.

^ & ^^ Although I trust Amazon, many of the offers are from party, which I don't trust.

PAG, Are you using Amazon US and UK to ship into Thailand as well?

I only now live in Thailand, so yes, all of my Amazon deliveries are to Phuket. I mainly use the US (Amazon.com) site, and really unless something that is UK specific, will continue to do so. Paying from my Thai bank in Baht, of course currently the exchange rate is to my advantage.

Not sure what you mean about offers from other parties? As far as I'm aware, if a supplier signs up with Amazon there are contractual conditions and obligations they need to fulfill. Again, to the best of my knowledge, any supplier ships to a central Amazon hub where it's examined and coded before onward shipping. Regardless of where an item I order from in the States, it seems to transit to Kentucky before shipment to Alaska (and onward to normally Incheon). Normally, order to door here in Thailand, 5 working days. No hassle with Customs as that's already been sorted by the Courier (normally DHL).

^ Thanks for clarifying. That knowledge will come in handy in the future.

Thanks also to those that answered the thread. I looked at all the phones suggested and decided to buy a Samsung S21+. It wasn't my first or second choice but the S20 series were out of stock/long lead times.

I know, they're not cheap, but this time I'm taking the easy path, i.e the wife's advice.

My 10 cents, I bought a second hand Samsung Note4 18 months ago for 2000 bahton Kaidee.
Can buy replacement battery off the shelf.
If i drop it in the water i will buy another Note4 for less, I hope.
For my use it is fine, but if you are editing video's on your phone then you may need a more expensive model.
Just an opinion not an endorsement.
Has gps and all that and you can carry a spare battery or 2 or 3 for those camping trips.

I'm sure you won't regret it. I've had the S20 Ultra for just over a year now and it's been great. Difficult to imagine what future improvements can be made to high end phones, though I'm sure there will be something to tempt people to part with their money.

    The bastards.

I thnk to undercut Apple's iPhone mini.

Tbh. I think I prefer my s8 to the s21 although the s21 has a slightly better camera, its harder to crack the screen and battery life is better.

Its a chunky thing with a case and I cant use it one handed like the s8.
Anything after S7 is more than anyone needs. Do you do your photoshops on your phone or what

^ The offer I saw was with Samsung and a trade-in of your old Samsung phone. However, the S6 we have is working fine so we'll use it as a backup. The broken Nokia just needs a new Battery and possibly the USB connector and I can have that fixed in Thailand cheaper than here.

The problem with the Samsung internet shop was that it had no stock of S20 phones and the S21s could not be bought without strings attached.

I went to Amazon instead and bought it for Amazon rate. There were cheaper third party offers but I decided against them and it should be delivered today. No change from a couple of monkeys.

TBH I'm still finding that my 'stopgap' Huawei G3 does everything I need just fine- except be a good camera & video, which in fairness was a weakness of the previous Samsung S8 too.

It seems the new Oppo X3 phones are the dogs bollocks in this regard- so reckon I'll just sit tight for a few months while they inevitably come down in price.

But what happened to that Huawei being banned from everything blurb? Mine does Google, Chrome & FB no problema. Loada hot air from yankeeland.

^ ...and the other late suggestions are no longer of interest. I'm happy with the S21+ that arrived next day (yesterday) at the stated time (15:00 - 18:00) delivery girl handed it to me personally just after 3pm.

The setup is a breeze nowadays and all data was transferred from my other phone in quick order. Phone also downloaded all the previous apps except for Line, which I had to do separately. I was fortunate in that the Nokia did charge up (after 4 days) and I could check my account settings. I had also set both up to work with my laptop in case problems arose.

Not sure who else uses Line, but setting the password was a confusing experience. It kept saying that I need to use half-width characters, but English keyboard is all half-width. Anyway, a search on the internet showed that the password must contain at least 1 letter, 1 capital letter, 1 number, 1 special character. It was just the error message that was wrong. The password is a new addition and required to synch with new phone.

Initially, I connected both phones via cable to transfer data, which is when the new phone told me to disconnect due to moisture warning. All okay when charging and all synched via wireless and I now know what is wrong with the Nokia. Moisture in the phone/socket that it failed to warn me about! Oh well, at least I know now. The S21+ is so much better that I should have bought it in the first place.

The default settings on the S21+ were using gestures rather than the standard 3 navigation controls at the bottom that I am used to. Lots to learn about how to use the phone more efficiently but it adds to the fun.

The wife finds my struggling with how to use a phone most amusing. I'm supposed to be the engineer and have been working with software for over 35 years and can't work a phone...
