    Moving computer/PS4 to Thailand

    Hello TeakDoor,

I’ll be moving my computer from US to Thailand and I’m worried that software like Windows, MS Office, and others will not like it. Same for my PS4.

I don’t really like the idea that I would have to re-purchase anything. Is there anything that I should be made aware of or avoid?

Not sure of my terminology, is this a DRM issue?

Sorry for my ignorance. Thank you for any advice you can give.

You might take the hard drives out and take them carry on so they wont be damaged in transit. The rest can go in your checked luggage.

yeah, I posted a couple of times first time I visited years ago.

now I’m moving there. Different problems.

I expect to be haunting the visa forums soon.

    Yup...
Also making backups to external HDDs in my carry on, and backed up to Carbonite.

I’m good with hardware, but don’t know much about digital rights. What rights are tied to location, and which carry over when moving?

not sure about your ps4 - but windows will be fine - many people carry laptops around the world to different countries with no issues

the only problem you could have is with software that has geo location features , like netflix and I guess your ps4 pass account - you may want to ask questions on a ps4 forum or reddit sub

other than that , make sure you get a fibre connection at your residence in thailand

and not forgetting your power supply issues - US has 120vac and thailand has 240vac - check the specifications on your ps4 power brick and your desktop power supply to see if they handle 110 to 240 vac - if not you will need to buy new power supplies

verified the PC, PS4, and monitors this morning. I almost forgot the monitors, btw. I’m all good there.

All they will need is an adapter. (Assuming a replacement power cable can’t be found)

You might want to install a Thai language pack if you are going to have any files that use Thai script.

If you have two factor authentication set to send an SMS to a US phone you may want to remove it temporarily and just point it at an email or an authenticator app.

You may have trouble accessing cloud services from the new location without 2FA, and if your US phone doesn't work in Thailand it could cause a problem.
