    Printer problems. Help needed.

I’ve recently had to upgrade my modem/WiFi router. Everything on the network has been updated and working except my printer. I’ve tried a couple of things I looked up on the googlenet to no avail. Any ideas how to get my printer back online or am I destined to purchase a new one?

Mac desktop, IPad Pro, vs Brother MFC-JB875DW.

The printer's Wifi is usually only set to pick up from one router, changing the router means that the printer won't connect to it. You'll have to completely reset and reinstall the printer, which is a bit of a PiA.

The other option is to connect it via the cable.

I'd connect it by cable for a few days, as if I tried to do the process immediately, I would probably end up smashing it to pieces.

    Yucky Apple.

Why can you not hard-wire the printer? Mao is correct in telling you to do that.

Who uses a printer anymore? Oh, god more boomer fire incoming...

Must print out post labels. If you know a way to do that without a printer, I am willing to give it a shot.

Before setting it up with the new router info (easy enough), the old router info has to be completely removed from the printer (definitely not easy enough)

What are you mailing from home kit? You should be outsourcing everything you can being that you are in Georgia aka the hot (COVID-19) south.

I am dropping off at UPS. If I have the label printed, I don’t have to go in the shop and stand in line with all the people who will surely be there at this time of year. Just so you know, I can e-mail UPS the label I need and pick it up there but that puts me back to standing in line.

    Hi Misskit,

Literally the simplest answer is to connect by cable. As your system is the same after your router update. There "should" be nothing else to do. Purchasing a new printer will not resolve your issues - few connect automatically. (Except in Linux, where most mainstream now do)

If you insist on WIFI printing, this: LINK should help you.

    MK, just a thought.

Connect by cable till the printer cartridge runs out.

The ink is usually the most expensive part.

Do a little research while waiting what best suits your needs.

I recently bought a Brother BnW Laser Printer ... works a treat.

Double sided printing, WiFi (of course), document feeder, and if sourced on-line, cheap as printer cartridges.

I'll check later the model number.

I have a canon printer. I had constant problems with the Wi FI every time I would want to print , this and that all the time, so I gave up on the Wi-Fi , when ever I want to print something I hook it up with the USB cable and I am good to go, no fuss no mass , no problems .
Unless you do a lot of printing, simply use the wire and you are good to go.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

@edmond - yeah, I was also reminded of the printer from The Office.

    Oh, and Michael Bolton!

@MK - hope you're able to get it to work!

^ a lan cable from the printer to the router is a good idea, the pad and the workstation will then get wifi access to the printer.

I need to find an antique usb to usb or lan to lan cable around the house...or go out and buy one. Thought I was long past the cables stage.

WOO HOO! After dragging out every old cable in the house, took Edmond’s advice and reset the printer. Then there was a prompt to press the WPS button an the router. VIOLA!

Now the dang thing is out of ink. Always something.
