    Video Editor Recommendations

The wife wants me to teach her how to make videos on her mobile, edit them, and make videos from multiple ones. The editing to be done on a computer rather than a mobile.

She wants to be able to do the usual sorts of things that can be achieved using a video editor.

Any TD member doing this sort of thing and can recommend a video editor, preferably free? It has to be reasonably simple to use so that I can teach the wife. That means simple interface but with enough tools to add audio and chop and change between videos.

    I have been looking at:

Lightworks - simple interface but the free version looks limited for output sizes and formats
VSDC - Looks a little complicated but free version looks to be powerful
Olive - Free, looks easy enough to use and reasonable tools
KdenLive - Free, looks okay but not sure about interface.

Interested to hear what people are using...

I decided to download Olive first and give it a try. Main reasons are that it is free, has easy to follow youtube tutorials, and reviews look good.

I opened it up and tried my luck to start with but didn't get very far so have now watched the first three tutorials. Well not the first, since that explained how to download the software and I'd already done that bit. Had another go and managed to cut bits out of 1 movie and then add a second movie and cut bits out of that. Not too difficult to do these basic things.

I shall spend some time with this product and see how much it can do and whether we need anything more sophisticated.

I'll add more as I go along in case anyone is interested.

You can do a lot of that with TikTok.

I use Davinci Resolve. There is a free version for PC, mac or linux.
It is fully featured. (used in many feature films) , but it is also simple for a starter, drag, drop, splice, cut, and export.
The advantage is if you ever want to advance your editing skills, then you can do that using a familiar interface.

You can extract bits out of videos and shrink videos for uploading and splice bits of videos together with VLC.

That's some more to add to the list, thanks.

I'll try a few out and see how they compare. Could be a slow thread...
