    Moisture in a Samsung S10+

I've only had my new phone a few months and it's doing my head in...

About a week ago I had this notification that moisture had been detected in the charging port. When I tapped on the notification this message came up...

To my knowledge the phone hadn't been exposed to any significant moisture, other than being put in a sweaty pocket. When I tried to charge the damn thing, it made a loud beeping noise with this message...

A bit of research has shown that this has been a recognised problem in hot and humid climates... both heat and humdity we have in spades in Korat at the moment. I tried many of the suggestions on Google... to clean the port with a tissue and alcohol, blowing a fan on it, etc etc, and after a day the notification went away and I could charge the phone again.

Then it happened again, and again. A couple of nights ago I left the phone charging on the bedside table overnight, and half way through the night the beeping started with the notification of moisture detected. Now the notification is permanent and I cannot charge the damn phone using the USB port.

As a temporary measure I've borrowed a mate's wireless charger while I wait for one to turn up from Lazada, but it's far from ideal.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem living in hot and humid climate, and if so, if it was solved? My next step is a factory reset which I really want to avoid, if possible.

I'd be extremely grateful for any advice!

^ Thanks... I tried leaving it in a plastic container with rice overnight, but with no joy. The thing is, it hasn't been exposed to water and this moisture message seems to be in error. This last time it appeared while the phone was sitting on my bedside table. I just can't seem to bypass it.

One tip was to reboot the phone and push in the charger as soon as the first 'Samsung' logo appeared. That worked once, but not since.

Humidity, or condensation on the charing plug.

It's not an error, it's just screwed.

Best tip, buy a new one.

This one should still be under warranty I think. Didn't you just buy a new one for better photos?

Ive had that warning after taking underwater photos with my s7 and s8. It always went off after about an hour though.

With your phone plugged into the charger try turning your phone off and on again after you get the warning. See 8f that gets rid of it.

    If not

Delete all those pics of your dog in your wife's underwear and take it to a Samsung repair centre.

    Yep>

Factory reset first and make sure you are on the latest firmware and see if that cures it. **

If not, take it back and demand a replacement at least.

** Because if you ask them to look at it, that's the first thing they will try and then they'll give it back to you.

Thanks Airportwo... Yes, I went as far as Step 4 but with no joy. I resisted charging in safe mode as I thought it better for me to borrow a wireless charger. Step 6, the reset, I was hoping to avoid.

    Thanks for the answers.

The warning disappeared last night, but was back this morning. The phone hasn't been exposed to water overnight and this must be an error.

If I factory reset, do I need to back up all photos beforehand? They are stored on the phone, not on a memory card as I'm using dual SIM.

Also, do I lose all the apps and have to re-install rhwm again?

After that I guess it's off to the Samsung service centre. The phone was bought fron a Samsung shop and is in warranty.

Have you tried taking the sim card out and shaking the moisture out and drying the sims ? It could be wet in there.

^^^ I guess that can't hurt... but it never got wet in the first place. Maybe a bit humid in my pocket.

The mallet option has an appeal.

Maybe done accidentally when you were asleep.

You've looked into the sim tray in stage 3 to see what the colour is, yeah? And i'm guessing that strip is not red or pink?

While a pain in the ass Mendip, I'd backup all your photo's (If you do not use Google Photo's) and take the phone back for replacement. Then spend a few hours adding in your contacts and DL the APPs you use or want.

I say this as you might get the issue to go away near term but if it pops up again later after the warranty expires, you will be out money to repair it (If repairable).

    Good Luck

^^^ I seem to have missed that bit of stage 3, I'll check later.

I can't see how I'd accidentally soak my phone while asleep? Apart from the obvious if course... but I haven't been drinking much the last week.

    ^^ JPPR2, good thinking.

I do use Google photos but it stores compressed versions of the photos, so today I'll back them all up on my laptop and then go to sort the phone out.

Service centre or the Samsung shop I bought it from? Assuming it's open at the moment...

Actually I seem to remember that all the apps and stuff migrate to the new phone when you sign into your account.

    Yes on both accounts.

I'd personally take it to a Samsung Service centre. My wife dropped her S10+ tele and the phone started acting strange. It was under warranty. She took it back and they ordered a new phone and she went and swapped them out when it arrived ( 5 days or so)

    Cheers
