    SOS - Win10

System fcuked after a power cut last year, had to reinstall Win10, I gave the wizard my original disk (Win10 home) but he installed his own Win10 Pro. So far so good, only now it keeps popping up with a nag screen telling me it needs to be reactivated or will 'soon' expire.

This morning I realised that among the few bits I had lost on the last install were an image and a copy of my Win10 disk; tried to make an image and disk copy, and it does not load; this may be why he installed his own copy, though that's irrelevant because anytime I could be locked out.

    Options?

Reactivate your current Win10 pro, you can buy a fully functional activation code on ebay for $4.

🔥 MS ᴡɪɴᴅᴏᴡꜱ / WIN 10 PRO KEY 2020 GENUINE ACTIVATION CODE INSTANT DOWNLOAD 🔥 | eBay

The key is sent to your email together with a download link for a genuine Win10pro image in case you need to reinstall.

I had my Win10pro (bought from a Thai distributor of computer thingys) installed an all computers in my home and then I bought a couple of ebay keys
    to make them individual.

Do you call him the wizard because he ripped you a new sleeve in keeping your original disc?

The disk has no value, it can be downloaded for free. The activation code has value.

Exactly and right on Microsoft's webpage. I am surprised more are not aware of that.

I'm guessing he means physical cd here, in a sleeve that has the activation code on it

Much as I've taken to Win10, my years with XP were mostly problem free.

I never used the original disc since installing it years ago, so if it's gone maybe that's why he installed his own 10Pro. And btw he had my computer overnight, and held me to ransom by hijacking all of my personal files, accounts etc; I had backups from about 2 weeks earlier, but still couldn't fill many blanks.

As I already have a legal version and would prefer to stay that way since I don't need the bells and whistles of Pro, could I dl a copy of Win10 Home and use my own key, and if so would it have to be exactly the same build?

You could but I am not sure what you are getting at with regards to the build question? Do you mean version? If so the answer is yes if it was downloaded from MS. It will be latest.

Pro is better. You get One Drive & bitlocker.

For the price of a few dollars on ebay. For a few dollars more you can get MS Office as well.

I thought the reason Pro was installed was he didn't have the key?

Your Win Home key will work with the Win Home you can download from Microsoft.
Only disadvantage is that you will need to reinstall Win Home so you'll also need to reinstall all your currently installed programs.
That is often a pita and that's why I suggested you buy the Pro key.

Once I could not locate the exact version for my corporate activation code. That version is not on the Microsoft servers for download. So I used a very similar version and tried to activate it. Microsoft came back with a statement that this is not the correct version and asked me if they should remotely install the correct version. I clicked yes and the correct version was installed.

Next I tried to do the same on my laptop. Unfortunately the connection crashed during install. Some problem local to my WiFi network. On a second try they simply accepted that activation code for the wrong version. But then I am in the EU where these codes are legal.

Depends how many are licensed under the EA.

Until Microsoft notice and block it.
