    Laptop died(?)

Any suggestions other than take it in?

    Laptop died(?)-d890a282-3666-420d-bfc9-222db6866548-jpg

Bought a cheap lappy in Anchorage that had been working better than a brand new Dell(!), which I left behind in storage.

So, I dropped it on the hard floor last night while transferring large files.
It completed the transfer and I proceeded to watch Netflix on it for hours before falling asleep.

This AM it seemed fine till it halted and prompted a restart. It then showed the above screen and now (following other restarts + removing and replacing batt) will only show this screen.

junk it, take it in or try a workaround (which I have none)?

HP WIN 10 (can't really get any more info)...

Your hard disk is fucked. It only takes a little drop.

Put an SSD in it now. It'll start up rapidly

Try booting it while repeatedly pressing f11. If I recall, that will bring up a system recovery dialogue.
That is, if your HD is not fvcked, as it could be, but it's worth a try.
Yes, SSD is the only way to go.

Open your laptop up, take out the hard drive and re-attach it.

Hopefully it may just have moved.

If not take it to a computer repair shop and ask if they can recover the data from your HDD.

You can buy external cases that you can plug your HDD into to use them as external drives.

This ones a bit old now....but just to show how easy they are to plug in

You could also have changed the boot sequence.

    Follow this Nigerian tutorial

...SD's advice: do a search for data recovery services in the area (example: https://idrlab.com/?lang=en ) (<--if you've lost data)...such companies may also repair the damaged computer...

Your tech devices must belong to a union. They're all putting tools down at the same time.

    Yeah right!

    I got nowhere, predictably...

Tech dude has had it for a couple hours trying to see if recovery (data) is possible.

If not, I'll bring it to the big smoke next week, contact SD (oooops), I mean follow SD's advice...

Should have took him 10 minutes to know if your HDD was readable on another computer

Probably swapping your genuine parts for cheaper Chinese shit

Did you make a rescue usb stick? Do that next time and boot from it when your hd fails next time.

The hd is not so easy to get at in modern laptops. It used to be a simple job to swap them but not any more.
