Computer not displaying my Mobile Phone as an external drive/storage device

I've always transferred my media from my phone to a computer by using a physical cable. Has worked well in the past.

Simply plug in the cable and the computer 'sees' the object and nominates it a drive letter ... say 'D' drive.

Recently this has stopped. The computer still charges the phones battery, but I can't access any files as this computer doesn't indicate any external drives.

Have tried 2 phones and 2 computers.

No 'new' software has been downloaded.

Running Win 10 64 bit Pro

Also tried it on a different computer ... and older Win 7 computer.

Both will 'charge' the phones ... but they won't 'see' them.

... but, until recently, the computers can 'see' the phones.

But the computers can 'see' an external memory stick easy as.

    Thanks in Advance

Have you changed the cable recently? Some cables will only charge, others will charge but can also be used to transfer data.

Or is the cable quite old or possibly damaged? Have you tried another data transfer able cable?

    Thanks for the replies above.

Nope ... can't throw the thing in the nearest Klong ... It's my partners lifeline (her phone) and my pastime while I sit on the shitter and play Sudoku.

    Oh ... Her's ... it's a Samsung Galaxy A or E or something.

Mine is some cheap Chinese Appo phone or something. Lasted a year ... and now the screen has 'dead spots' ... as in I can't 'touch screen' and do stuff.

Cabling... humm ... yes, we have now come to Thailand. Thought I was using the same cable as back in the wild West ... but could be wrong.

Damm ... there are soooooooooo many cables!

Could be a hardware issue, and, if so ... great, so much easier to fix.

    Thanks for the replies.

uninstall drivers and reinstall them again.
This is probably a driver problem.
Open device manager and you will see a yellow triangle next to your phone or other device.
This means that you have the wrong driver.

For the Samsung, you need 'Smart Switch'. Install the app on the phone, and onto the PC.

Also make sure the phone is "open", i.e. not in lock screen mode. E.g. connect to computer, then open the phone.
