    True aircard, what's going on.

Enlightenment please, went over to a true air card, 499 Baht a month, yearly contract.
So it's supposed to give 10 gig of 3 G, then drops down to kbs, 10 Gig download, bittorent, great, then it's stops all bittorent downloads, internets fine, but no bittorents.
Look on the net and find that some ISP block or throttle back bittorents, not happy, wife's on the phone, telling them it's not what they promised, spacifically said it was for downloading TV/movies etc

So today, after 4 days of no BT downloads I come out and tried the bittorent download again, to my surprise, it downloading again, but at 3G speeds.
Anyone use True aircards, is it just a glitch, or are they giving me some free 3G, so I don't cancel and or pay them for this month.
Haven't signed the contract yet, as wife did it on the phone and the contract is in the post.
    Any thoughts, Jim

Could it be that in the previous statement month you over used the 3g portion, so after that you were dropped down to slow drip feed. Now is a new statement month, and you are back using your 10 gig of 3G again? Have you checked your usage for last month? Easy enough to do.

Only had the thing for under 2 weeks, as said, other then bittorrents the net was fine.
When we phoned them, they said they don't block bittorrents.

Well over the 10 gig, the package is unlimited, it just drops to 395 kbs after you use your 10 gig of 3G.
You can download day and night at 395 kbs, but it would seem not bit-torrents, why it suddenly gives me MBs has me stumped, help desk is useless.

Thing is I don't want to sign the year contract, if they are blocking bit-torrents.

So after you have used up your monthly allowance of 10 gig of 3G, it drops to 395 kbs.

Is there a setting on your torrent program about "don't down load if download speed is less than..."? Check settings?

No, was using DTAC before, terrible signal, much slower then True and no problem with bittorrents.

Did google True and bittorrents, some say they block bittorrents, some it's the package they use, others it's the area.

True say they don't block anything, leaving me stumped, but while the 3G holes out I am down loading non stop.
Should have a weeks worth of shows, if it stays up for the rest of the day.

One of the joys of living in the stick, move to the bright lights of Ubon if you want decent Internet

I have TOT wifi out in the sticks in Surin....nanostation on the roof ,costs about 6k for the set up and then 599B for 10MB download speeds and unlimited usage !...I gave up true,Dtac and 12call airsticks years ago...true is overpriced for their aircards.......my mate in Pattaya pays 799B for 40MB download speeds and unlimited usage with True cable so why are their aircards so expensive ??

Well I detest True - a massive bunch of lying fools anyway, so I would not put it past them at all to block torrents after a certain level and claim ignorance about it.

Got the wife to read the text messages, seems they gave me another 10 gigs of 3G, no reason given, probably because we phoned 1/2 a dozen time complaining.
Soon as it was used, no more torrent downloads, tried a few other downloaders, no go.
Back to DTAC, though will go and see the True shop in person, may get an answer face to face.

Quite discouraging that Thailand doesn't permit for broader and open competition - in time, the likes of True and TOT would have to learn or go belly up.

Easy to practice what you want when you're subsidized and protected.

Finally got the answer, true does not block bit torrents, it blocks all large downloads, so the package is useless, as are the True sales people.
Asked what package I need to download TV using an aircard, no idea, you just have to buy more GBs.

if you can't get TOT fibre then get the TOT wifi via the ubiquiti nanostation - just need to have line of sight and lees than 12 klms from a TOT radio tower - they will come out and test for you

and fcuk TRUE - they didn't buy the bluecoat proxy system for nothing

TOT is an ISP without the ISP need to squeeze as much out of their infrastructure as they are an incumbent

TOT is special - like CAT .. way different to the rest of the ISPs and wireless telecoms
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

Been on true forever. Pain in the ass but options limited. No land line anywhere in the ville and no wifi in range. Struggle with the "fair usage" 3G crap. Lots of 99 baht payments every month to just maintain 3G speed.

Spoke with ToT last year about getting wifi in the ville. Need to have 20 users. Only found 5. Now I hear may be possible to get on fibre. Reckon time to inquire about it. Til then will struggle with true.

I think they were not talking about the ubiquiti nano station method

also could be people trying to make cash off the back or the TOT wifi - I have heard similar and it sounded like they would get the nanostation installed and then redistribute via a wifi AP and charge to all the "customers" - which would be a total clusterfcuk

Not sure. Amounted to erecting a wifi tower in the village free if at least 20 users signed up.
Friend not far from me got on a fibre connection. Cost 10k baht. Apparently he is close to a connection point. I wiil check to see what cost it is to get fibre here.

Fibre is best if you can get it

the ubiquity is a 1 dwelling device - unless of course somebody is trying to make the extra cash subdividing - you mount the ubiquiti on a pole and point the thing at a TOT mobile phone / microwave tower they are PoE devices so the power comes over a pair on the ethernet cable which can be 100 meters long ( so you could actually mount the nano on a pole on a hill at the back of the house if required - and the other end of the ethernet will go through the PoE injector ( poer supply ) and to a AP/router in your house

Bola should be able to fill you in on the details if you can't get fibre - I had intended to get the nanostation but they installed ADSL and I used that for a year or so until I spotted a TOT truck in the moobarn with a TOT fibre sign in the window and the rest is as they say - history

TRUE has been touting its 30/3 fibre connection but I politely tell the kids with the brochures to fcuk off - the rest off the moobarn can sign up with them and make me happy

Thai companies throttle, seemingly at will, so you hardly ever get any consistent decent speeds - even 'unlimited 3G' in Bangkok quickly gets throttled back (though that might have changed recently?).

Thing is I don't need fast internet, just a steady 400 or 500 kbs to download TV and movies overnight.
The 3 providers here, DTAC, True and AIS can't provide that, plus they change what you get at the drop of a hat.
Used DTAC, monthly payment for over a year, 395 kps, then they dropped it down to 125 kbs, which is useless.
3 BB is now only 4 km away, so it may get here one day.

Yeah, but the Thais seem to have made up their mind a few years back that they don't want that kinda thing going on - I hate to think how utterly shite their basic network structures are.

I feel your pain, I had the same at the house - got one of those 1 million metre tall antennas to connect to some other place for about 600 baht per month - get consistent decent speeds; can actually watch films rather than download them overnight.
