    Ideas for community website please

Ive been asked to take over day to day running a local traders' association website

The site is straightforward enough. As it stands its a basic directory of members, each with their own landing page.

Im looking for web based ideas that will help market the area as a destination for trendy, independent shops, cafes and restaurants

    Some ideas:

    Twitter feed onto home page
Local area and trader news/ events/ offers as blog page
Press releases - link to pdf downloads
    Live cam feed
    Weather widget
Downloadable pdf "passport to area" that offers special deals in local shops with stamped as used pages

    All suggestions welcomed.

The members are mostly v small indy retailers.

I like the idea of a live cam feed. Everyone is a voyeur. Content needs to be active though.
Tropical aquaria are ideal for that, mesmerising. Good luck.

pdf won't work if you are going for hip and trendy. It'll have to have an iPhone and Android app.

Add a separate QR code (on each landing page) containing all the contact details and a link to a map for each shop. Can always add extra specific info if required, such as; opening/close times, special offers, links etc.

    Piece of piss to make.

Are all the shops in a single geographical area and are they willing to work together on the "rising tide lifts all boats" principle?

If it's yes to the above could you get them to all cooperate in such a way that a local resident or shopper could sign up or something and then when they wanted to go shopping just drift from shop to shop picking items, stop for lunch or a coffee etc and wave their phone to tally up on a single bill to automatically be put on their credit card when they are done?

You could take it further and further, go shopping and instead of having to lug little bags of items around with them just keep going and have the retailers bring all the items to a single location to pop into the boot of the car when they are leaving, or have it all delivered home for a fee or gratis if the retailers will split the cost.

Free wifi is a must but have the retailers chip in to pay for a blisteringly fast network and let them put ads or daily specials or clearance items or what have you into the app that acts as their passport/membership card/map or whatever.
