The outgoing server requires authentication tab is checked. That's good as well as the "use same settings as incoming mail server"
Incoming is pop.gmail.com and outgoing is smtp.gmail.com nothing has changed in that box from the 'original' settings I've had for eons.
coming back from what you said here, how is it preventing from receiving or sending emails ? do you have some authentication errors after you enter the login/password ? please clarify,Quote:

This problem is not very straight-forward for sure!
no, that's correct
see my question about the send/receive pop ? does it work or does it return an error ? if it works, we have to look at other options, if it fails, then it's simply a login/password issue
take a look at this:
How to setup an Outlook Gmail account from a Google Gmail email address
and this:
Google Gmail POP Service
The authentication 'errors' is the network password not being recognized. I've never encountered this particular problem using MS Office (Outlook) 2003 or MS Office (Outlook) 2007 before.
What's puzzling is like all of a sudden both my laptops - one using Windows 7 running Office 2007and the other using XP running Office 2003 developed this problem - I'm guessing at the same time. The Windows 7 laptop was with me in China and just got back to find the same situation with the XP laptop. Very strange...
did you enable somewhere the option "Logon to my incoming mail server before sending emails" ? that should be disabled to be sure,Quote:

strange, indeed. Need to see the screenshot of it, might see somethingQuote:

it sounds more and more like an Internet Explorer Proxy settings gone wrong,Quote:

doesn't matter, check it just in case. Internet Explorer is more than a browser, it has system settings that can affect some aspect of your Internet connection, whatever applications you useQuote:

I must have had one giant brain-fart throughout this whole episode ! Re-entering my passwords for the two gmail accounts in the "Network Password" box did the trick.
Owe you one Butterfly for hanging in there with me! Making things more complicated than they should be - Jesus...thanks again for the help!:)
thank god for that
we thought we had lost you there
phew
that's why we needed the screenshot, I could have seen immediately that you didn't put anything in the password box, which I suspected eventually when everything else checked out
Ask GravesendDave for advice re posting screenshots:)
Why didn't you tell him to use regedit?Quote:

Well, I was premature yesterday in my exultation in solving my Network Password problem.
It's back. But, I can access my email programs thru Outlook if I punch in the gmail password(s) - all is fine then. Although when exiting Outlook and going back I'm requested to input that 'network password' which is the damn mail program password.
I'll try to get a screen shot up of this phenomenon...
On the upside, BM, we can all read your emails now. :D
Have you tried turning the computer on?
