I meant always plugged into the portable HDD, so don't take the USB out.

News to me. Last time I got a new Toshiba 1 TB about a month ago and it seems much more sturdy and I think a few bucks more than the WD. But yeah probably all the same shit inside.

Maybe also a good idea, wherever you are storing them, to throw in some of those desiccant packs, to absorb the moisture.

lads, i have had my WD portable HDD for a while now, at least 2 years.
Never had any problems. Plug it into the offices's PC USB in the morning, unplug and take it home in the evening.
Of course now that I did this post the fukkin thing will shit itself tomorrow morning.

    Thanks, Norton.

    3TB is A LOT.

Price on that? I'm checking now.

I assume Toshiba, being Japanese, has good quality - even though they are likely made in China.

Same factories as WD (Western Digital)? Thanks for that info.

The only think that would put me off on a 3TB portable is: with this much space, I would store so much stuff on it, that if I lost it, broke it, got it wet, or it went kaput, I would be out a lot of things I spent so much time to gather.

But then again, I suppose that is why it's called "back-up."

Stay away from Seagate. It's that simple. Western Digital or Hitachi.
