    Rapidshare Vs Torrents

Ive been looking at using torrents to download some entertainment , and with the kind help of other TD members ( thanks guy's ) I have finally set up my computer . I have seen that others get their films / documentaries and TV programs buy using some thing called Rapidshare . It seems that many people pay for the premium service and get good results .

I was wondering how Rapidshare compares with torrents ( apart from paying for Rapidshare ) and does having a paid for Rapidshare premium account , have more benefits than free torrents ? . I don't mind paying if the benefits are there .

I can't really help on this one Jimmyboy as I only use torrents.

The benefit I guess (and I could be wrong) is that your not relying on people to seed/share the file. With rapidshare the file is held and you download directly (I'd imagine a lot quicker than a torrent). So the more obscure/unpopular files may be easier to come by via rapidshare.

    Thanks once more

I was wondering about the download speed difference .

This is where I got the idea from

Using torrents, If its a popular torrent and/or I'm downloading from a private tracker I see speeds of approx 500-600 kB/s. Some of the less popular non private torrents I download I see speeds of 30-150kB/s.

The few files I have downloaded from sites like Rapidshare and Filestube I have seen speeds of 500-600 kB/s. Same as my torrents from private trackers.

I'm not sure if that info is any use to you

Oh and I'm not sure if that's the maximum speed I can download from Rapidshare and the like as a non paying subscriber. It limits how many files per day I can download and will only lift that limit after parting with some cash.

Id advise you to start with the torrents, they are free after all and if for any reason you can't get what you want or its too slow then opt for the paid option.

If you want to download a lot of old or obscure stuff, you will probably have better luck with a pay site like Rapidshare- if you are mostly interested in current TV series and movies from the last few years, torrents will be all you need.

I used to use Megaupload (before they were shut down) and I paid or their service and was very happy with it- all the old stuff I wanted downloaded quickly, and seeders for brand-new shows and movies was never an issue- Rapidshare is probably as good, but note that they could also disappear at any time.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

If you want to use rapidshare then install JDownloader on your computer.

It will queue your downloads and has options to add url's from clipboard and even reboot the computer between downloads so that you don't have to wait.
That way you don't have to pay for premium service.

Pretty sure torrent sites will be clamped to death in the near future, so sites similar to rapidshare etc which were the old way will become the new way of file sharing again.

Torrents are free. Rapidshare is not.

As the files are hosted on Rapidshare servers, it's bound to be in the crosshairs of the MPAA and the other copyright police, so it's only a matter of time before it gets shut down.

Torrents are not hosted on any particular server, hence they can't just remove the copyrighted material.

They've already shut down at least one of these big file hosters.

Torrents plays a vital role for both uploading and downloading process. Torrents keep the file safe and can be used for long time but rapidshare doesn't provide it.

Stick with torrents. Easy to find, less chance of malware and free.
