    3G experience?

    G'day,

Wondering what folks experiences with 3G enabled tablets in Thailand are like.

What provider are you using and what is the plan?
    Would you recommend that provider?

Do they have an alternate method to connect if you are not in an area covered by the 3G network? Obviously if you are at home then you just connect to your home internet via Wi-Fi, but what if you are on the highway halfway between Nakhon Nowhere & Phæ Province.

In a nutshell, forget it. Nobody has it. DTAC and TOT are launching 850/2100 early 2012. You have to wait and see how that pans out.

True has it already and are expanding their coverage in Thailand.
They made a deal with CAT this spring so they can use frequencies assigned to CAT who had lots of spare.

^ No one is *legally* providing it. As the frequencies/licenses can only legally be issued by the NBC/NTC and that is still in limbo. The services currently offered are marketed as 'trials'.

I have a True 3g netsim and have tested it extensively in and around Khon Kaen.

Very poor coverage, speed and QOS. Out in the sticks? ..... nothing.

If fact its so bad I put the whole thing back in its packaging and its sitting in a drawer, anybody who wants it for free just pm me an address and I'll post it to you

I was about to ask a similar question myself, about what is the best SIM/network to slip into my smart phone while here in Thailand for my one week per month.

Mainly for multi-media (photo) messages, text messages and some data allocation to get GPS/mapping capability at a reasonable price around my base in the Phetchaboon region.

And while not wanting to hi-jack this thread...
Would anyone care to add further advice about this?

    It's a Samsung Galaxy II GT1900...

I'll find out more about what frequency it operates on in it's home country network (Australia) and post back...

You don't need to tell us anything. Just go get an AIS or Dtac Sim. That's the answer

If you're in BKK proper, AIS

If you're in BKK metropolitan area, TRUE

If you're in the sticks, AIS and DTAC suck equally, TRUE is unusable

    That's it.

The only usable 3G service in Thailand is TRUE. They do it at 850mhz. In inner BKK AIS 3G seems the best. 900mhz.

True 3G is faster than AIS. I will never have AIS again. EVER. So, I say

Get DTAC and forget high speeds. EDGE for you.
