    More rocks

    Saw some farang backpackers too.

It was a weekend, so there were loads of ppl, even tour groups. If you don't like pesky ppl ruining your photos, best to go there on a weekday. My itinerary didn't allow me to go there on a weekday, so I had to deal with the crowds. But then, if it wasn't a weekend, my friend wouldn't have been available, so in general, it was all good.

There's a market-type place near the Geopark, and my friend said that I should try the oyster omelet. So we sat down and had a lil snack. This guy made the omelet.

Oyster omelet.. I've tried it last year, on my previous trip to Taipei, at a mall food court. This one was better, as it had more oysters.

Anyway, back to the pix. Let's see if they'll load.

Jinshan is a city (or town?) to the east of Yeliu. There's a street there which is famous among locals, where people sell different kinds of stuff produced by the area.

    Entrance to Jinshan "walking street"

There was a temple in the vicinity

Dried bitter gourd, Momordica charantia. We call it "ampalaya". The dried fruits are boiled, and the tea used to lower blood glucose of diabetics.

More sausages for The Gent. The lady (granny) is for Withnall. Heh...

There was also this glass blower. He had a lot of stuff for sale.

Takoyaki balls, Japanese in origin. Taiwan was under JP rule from 1895-1945.
I often see these balls sold in malls in PI.

So after a long day of sightseeing, my friend and I were able to catch a bus which brought us directly to Taipei Main Station, where we parted ways.

Next day, I wanted to take things easy, so started my day late. I went to Ximending, which is the shopping district. The Red House (an octagonal historic building) was under renovation. It was okay, since I had visited that last year.

Next stop was Longshan/Lungshan Temple, a big temple in Taipei.

From the inscription at the entrance:
Longshan Temple, a Grade Two historic site. Longshan temple was built in 1738 by Fujianese immigrants as a branch of the original temple in Fujian province. It took 3 years to complete. Due to natural and man-made disasters, the temple has been repaired and renovated on numerous occasions. It faces south, with halls to the front and back and a central hall surrounded by protective dragons.

There's a man-made waterfalls inside the temple complex.

As I was going around the temple, I saw this lady. I don't know if she was a model or actress, but she was posing and someone was taking photos. She was pretty and quite the fashionista.

I wonder if she likes Pringles. heh...

Next stop was the Chiang Kai Shek memorial. This was the Martyr's Wall (or something similar).

It's a large area, and there's a park and open space. There are two similar buildings: National Theater Hall on the left, National Concert Hall on the right.

Chiang Kai Shek memorial hall. Reminded me of the Lincoln memorial in Washington DC, that you have to climb a lot of steps to see the statue of a dead guy.

If you timed it right, you can witness the changing of the guards.

These two pics are from last year's trip (February), so it was still winter. The Dr. Sun Yat Sen memorial. It's near Taipei 101 building and the City Hall.

Inside the Sun Yat Sen memorial. Another large statue. There's a small museum in the vicinity, where you can read about the life of Dr. Sun Yat Sen.

These two pics are also from last year. The Taipei Arena, a venue for concerts.

National Palace Museum. It's out of the city center, and you have to take the MRT+bus or taxi, or taxi all the way. Entrance fee: 250 ntd. Photography not allowed inside. Lots of artifacts, and if you're a history buff, you'll like it. Good for an hour or two.
