^What is next, Bars and Places of Ill Repute?
^I’m not much of a drinker so no bars and places of ill repute?,……….I don’t think the girlfriend would be happy. Little bit off subject, but a lot of these Japanese women are gorgeous.
I spoke to soon. The fish market that we planned to visit this morning isn’t open till tomorrow so we did visit another shrine and temple.
We started the day at the Hama-rikyu garden (Hama-rikyu Gardens) and had tea at the nakajima teahouse, while at the garden.

After the garden we took a boat ride along the Sumida Gawa River (Sumidagawa River Area) to get to (short walk) the Sensoji Temple (Senso-ji) where we ate lunch at the Waentei-kikko restaurant (Waentei-Kikko). Food is good and the show the owner puts on is great. If you’re thinking about going, get reservations.
After lunch and to end the day we took a walk along Omotesando (high end shops: Omotesando Hills) to the Meiji Jingu shrine (http://www.meijijingu.or.jp/english/) which was crowded and we didn’t wait in line to go all the way up. The forest you see in the pictures below is manmade.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
Those low tables and sitting on the floor ain't any good for me. knees seize up.
Ridiculously photogenic country.
Thanks.
The low seats look neat, are they available in Thailand?Originally Posted by terry57
Last Saturday afternoon we left Japan but before we left we had time to visit the Tsukiji fish market (some 1993 stats, moved 2,888 tons or 2.8 billion yen a day of marine products: Tsukiji) before heading over to the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace (Opening times of the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace - The Imperial Household Agency).
Next to the fish market there are many small shops selling products to the general public and where the girlfriend ate an excellent fresh breakfast. Some of these small restaurants (that open early) are packed in the morning (with people outside waiting their turn to get in). We walked into the restaurant the girlfriend ate at and they were not open (we didn’t know, it wasn’t like the door was locked), but when they placed a sign outside the door stating they were open, the place filled up shortly.

While in Tokyo we stayed at the Four Seasons at Marunouchi (Four Seasons Tokyo at Marunouchi). Beautiful place, the food was great (small portions) and the hotel is in a great location next to the Tokyo Station.
Here’s a short time lapse video of our view (the trains stop running during the evening hours). Just beyond the train tracks you’ll see the backside of the Tokyo Station.
When we arrived the girlfriends first question was,….Am I going to hear that all night? Evidently she didn’t see the attraction of a train station outside the window.
It was a nice trip and we’re looking forward to getting back to Tokyo. I would like to thank everyone who made a comment on this thread which made it more interesting and another thanks to everyone who stopped by and showed me some appreciation for starting the thread.
They have stools for people also (at the bar where you can eat), that's where we sat that afternoon.
Thanks for posting the wonderful photos.
Tokyo is an exciting city. It's a bit too frenetic for me, especially at the New Year. You've seen it at its maximum pace.
Thanks for the Palace garden shots.
Only just seen this...interesting and informative...... I hope to be heading to Osaka and Kyoto next month.....
Looks just as I remember it when I was a student there, when I watched the twin towers thing happen live on TV in a room full of seppos.
I never got round to visiting Nara - was skint anyway, but I did do Kamakura. Do love the chunky elemental elegance of things there.
The other lingering memory is of the smell... the satisfying aroma of umami or whatever it is. The cleanliness and safeness are strong memories too.
Great effort thanks
