too late, unfortunately
Cm was over run by cheap arse falang wierdos long ago. Great city though. I'm liking living in Lamphun though the air is no better.
Hooked up with the best internet ever, CAT optic fiber line all the way to the modem, 12.5mbps faster internet I ever had, a little pricey but well worth it. The 3G here shits all over BKK too.
I moved here and I'm bored to death already. There is virtually no nightlife.
Basically my day is wake up, eat, do some stuff on my laptop eat go to sleep.
BORING.
^ pretty obvious what your next decision should be then.
Yeah I find CM totally not boring. There's so much to do within an hour from the city and the city itself is well lively. BKK bores the shit out of me, same old shit everywhere and same grind to get from A to B.
I like BKK a lot although getting around can be difficult unless it is near the MRTs
I spend a few days in Chang Mai nearly every year (at least I used to- the wife's grandmother lived there and we would visit, but she passed away a couple years ago)- I can't speak to what it's like to live there, but I think it's a great small city that offers the best of both worlds as there is some amazing scenery just minutes away- it's on my short list of possible places to retire (though that won't be for quite a while yet).
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

^ It is becoming more and more popular; as a consequence, land and house prices are rising quite fast
I've heard that Chiang Mai is having a bit of a property boom since the floods in Bankok. People worried about the future of that city are buying homes here.
A new section of stalls has been built behind the Ruam Chok market just for venders relocating from there as a group.
^ that is an extra impetus, but the rise in prices was happening before that

My wife's family have done this (more dirty bastards from Bangkok polluting the place). Around the time of the floods, I saw advertisements hastily put up saying something along the lines of "No flooding on this housing development".I've heard that Chiang Mai is having a bit of a property boom since the floods in Bankok. I've been everywhere and also done the bar scene to death in Thailand. Now I'm very happy to live near Chiang Mai in the sticks.
Not to far if I need to go in the city and far enough to avoid the tourists, the pollution and the noise.
Though today is the first very smoky bad day here, I guess they begin to burn everything in the mountains and the neighboring countries. When the sun is only a yellow disk in the sky it's not a sign of pure air.
Wish I could say the same. Not many tourists but here in Lamphun industrial area the air is pretty bad,Originally Posted by Wallalai
Today the air was not bad at all, a nice breeze flowing and keeping the smoke away. Nice blue sky and sun.
I really like Sanpatong.
Yes been a very nice day. Cool wind and sunshine.
