Has anyone applied for a visa recently for India.? Is it fairly quick to get?.

I have done it in Bangkok. If you have a work permit, in one day pick up following afternoon. No work permit, 5 working days minimum.

I've a friend who applied at the Chiang Mai consulate 2 years ago. Only waited 2 days if I remember.

I got an India visa at the Chiang Mai consulate last year. It took a week.

All visa applicants (except Thai passport holders and resident foreign nationals) who have applied for visa and asked to submit their passport on 5th working day, may submit their passports between 1200 hrs and 1300 hrs at Counter No. 2. Visa could be collected between 1500 hrs and 1630 hrs the same day.

That is for the Bangkok indian embassy.

Why should you wait 1 week in Chiang Mai ?

^You have to go into the Indian Consulate, fill in the paperwork, let them get copies of your passport, then wait to be approved. It takes five working days, so one week.

After one week, you come back in with your passport and hand it in to get your visa stamp installed. You do this and collect your passport later the same day.
