    The Gate Theater Company of Chiang Mai - Misson Statement

    In keeping with our goal of establishing a permanent English language theater company in Chiang Mai, we put forth our mission statement and invite questions, comments, and the support of our community. Additional information can be obtained by writing to thegatetheater@asia.com or simply post questions and comments here.

    The Gate Theater Group’s Mission Statement

    To establish a non-profit English language theater group within the old city of Chiang Mai where residents can become involved in the performing arts, while seeking to entertain, inform, and educate. Thereby, enriching the cultural life of the Chiang Mai area in general and the English speaking residents of the community in particular. In meeting these goals, the Gate Theater Group shall be mindful of the standards of its audience and shall maintain fiscally sound management.

    Objectives supporting this mission are:

    · To sponsor approximately four productions per year, which will be predominantly drama and comedy, with one additional play for children.
    · To be recognized as a significant cultural asset by the local community.
    · To develop and draw from local talent to the maximum extent possible.
    · To enhance development of youth in the theater arts through cooperative ventures with local schools via workshops and sharing resources.
    · To sustain and increase recognition and financial support to talented youth through scholarships and other means.
    · To present quality family entertainment while Creating opportunities for young people and adults to develop talents in all aspects of theater arts.
    · To express artistic, civil and educational abilities and interests in our community and bring an enjoyable theatrical experience to our community.

    Yes. We are performing at AUA's auditorium where The Dodo Bird originally opened on October 19th. The play is being re-staged because of all the positive feedback received. Future productions are planned for this location as well.

    Best of luck Theatreatthegate, I hope it all goes well for you.

    I really enjoy theatre, its something I miss very much living overseas - I'm not likely to be in Chiang Mai anytime soon but if I were I'd certainly be along to see one of your productions.

    For a suggestion - How about a Pantomime - Might go well with a Thai audience and I'm sure would be popular with British expats who have young children - A bit late for this year but could be a good idea for next year.

    (If you are not British you might need an explanation of Pantomime)

    I think we know enough about immigration laws in Thailand to know that what we are attempting to do is not classified as work.
