    best restaurants in CM

Might be heading up to Chiang Mai in a while. Looking on the internet and was very sad to see David's Kitchen is closed. Presumably taken down by the pandemic.

Any other restaurants up that way that are as good, or nearly as good (that have survived)?

Not nearly as fancy or "haute cuisine", but have always enjoyed Dukes.

We both like the Thai food at 'Riverside' Restaurant.

Also a great place for a couple of cold ones in the late afternoon.

harriet reckons it's a tourist rip off, but then as ao noted elsewhere...

Agree with Dukes and Riverside (and Good View beside it).

For a Khao Soi lunch next to the river go to Rimping Boat Noodles, Hoi Kaa style (feet dangling down over the riverbank), great Khao Soi (peeset) 50thb, pik gai tod 55thb, the moo penang is also recommended. Not fancyschmancy, a nice litle place for lunch if in the area.

If your culinary needs extend further than noodles and the shit under part of the chicken and you dont wanna be sweating outside like a rapist and being bit to fuck by mosquitos whilst sat amongst a load of stinking backpackers, the 2 teflers above, some little half Mick midget entertaining a couple of Gambian prostitutes and Arry pulling up at anytime in his Nissan March... then the Shangri-la La may be the place for you, Nid

That's what happens when the place starts filling up with dross.

Iceman was there last week, hiding from his wife most of the time.

He'll know some top secluded spots

B Samcook Home 16 is by far the best food I have had in Chiang Mai. Set menu, Asian fusion, you won’t be disappointed. You’ll have to book. Not as fancy as David’s Place was but the food way better.

I was last there 2 weeks ago and it is as good as ever. Just over 1000bt pp represents really good value.

Whitehouse, Good view, Riverside in that order, all fairly standard Thai fare. Wife prefers Whitehouse, she reckons food is better and very few farangs and she also likes the band. (Thai), they will play some whitey music if you ask them.

No sybille <sigh>I said the River Market, formerly owned by Duke's and now defunct, was a tourist rip-off. And without tourists, it failed.

I often eat at the Riverside, it's always been popular with the Thais which is a sign the food is good.

They sold half of it sadly, that half is now called (I think) Deck One and on the two occasions I've been there the food has been adequate at best and the service absolute shit.

I really like Pongyang Angdoi on the 1096, but it's a 40 drive from CM.

Galae restaurant at Doi Suthep does good views and sits next to a reservoir.

Chez Marco on Loi Kroh has long been a favourite (not Thai).

Baanrimnaan is a popular Thai restaurant on the river (nothing fancy but great nosebag).

And a popular favourite if you haven't been is Khaomao-Khaofang.

Do you think they would play Hotel California? That's really hard to find.

Give Khao Mao Khao Fang a shot. Good food and a different environment. Always took guests there and had a few parties there as well. Enjoyed the experience and food.

I suppose when you only eat at McDonalds and eat-all-you-want noodle buffets, you wouldn't realise that a lot of Western restaurants serve Thai food as well.
