I am surprised they are calling it Chinese New Year instead of Lunar New Year. There seems to be a big push around SE Asia to re-designate it with all the controversy around China.

I don't know where these hundred thousand international visitors are but they sure as shit weren't at Swampy this morning. Outside with the cases in 20 minutes from the door opening.

I think it’s to do with equity rather than geo-politics. Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Vietnam all celebrate the lunar new year, not just China.

Several years ago, I queried the cost of a flight booking from Thailand to UK. The cost was attributed to a clash of dates with Chinese New Year.

I had forgotten all about until Tuesday this week. My visa agent informed me that my new Indo I.d. would be ready to collect on Tuesday. The office was closed due to Chinese New Year! It was also a public holiday for local banks.

Two things come to mind over this. Firstly, China is shut due to Covid, and secondly I’m not fucking Chinese!
