What is Chiang Mai like right now?

Heard from a friend that all the hotels are dark. Is that true? If you go to the Night Bizarre area, is anything happening? Are any Loy Kroh Road bars open? Are Red Trucks going up to Doi Suthep?

Also wondering if the thousand bamboo bars on the ring roads are open. Those were great haunts in the past. Missing CM and planning a trip back in about six months. Curious as to how dire the state of things is currently. Feet on on the ground reports only please.....

I'm sure the residents will update you but from now to 6 months is a long time in the current covid reality.

It's cold and very quiet. Suits me.

As Mike points out, it's pretty pointless asking if you won't be here for six months.

    Try again in May.

That's a list of pretty much every area that I avoid.

A few, certainly much less than before, but again I don't really frequent.

Bars etc. are more or less allowed to fully open now though I believe so presuming there are no further lockdowns--no guarantees there--then they'll make a come back I suppose.

Walking street market busy. Fuck all to buy. Bars open but quiet. Food has been outstanding. Khao soi netflix, good Chinese, and very good Italian tonight. My dealer has sold out of schnauzers though. Wouldn't want to be here horny. But the ladyboy bar on loi kroh looked fully ahem, manned.

Wandered up the UN Irish for the footy. No more than ten patrons all night.

Loi Kroh has a handful of bars open, none of them with much by way of custom.

The traffic around Nimman still sucks.

Had a pleasant Xmas lunch in Hang Dong, that had a few but mostly residents.

Whether or not a few come out of the woodwork for NYE I don't know, but apparently the 1am close is still on and I'd be surprised if they make an effort to close everyone bang on time, but then again I don't know how many bars will have enough customers to stay open anyway.

How long you in CNX for?

Feel free to pop in for a beer if you find yourself out my way. Bit tied-up for the next couple of days but free after that.

I was up there last week and it wasn't that bad. Went to Sukhothai, Lampang, Pha Yao, Chiang Rai, Chiang Kong and Chiang Mai. Everything was very much open in my opinion. Lampang Friday/ Saturday market was heaving, all restaurants and bars we went to in Chiang Mai seemed busy and relaxed. Only stops we got on route 11 and route 1 were fro drugs.

Suan Prung Hospital. There will be a celebration across the street from there tomorrow in the park. A sculpture of Jaran Manophet will be unveiled. Breaks my heart to miss that.

Are you retiring to Chiang Mai?

If you applied for your "test & go" before Dec 22, it will be vaild even in February at this point, apparently.

I applied for my "test and go" permit before I had even left Thailand.

    No problems coming back yesterday.

Couldn't do that as I hadn't firmed up my plans. Will just have to take whatever is on offer, probably Sandbox unless they are happy with the numbers.

Weren't many people around last night. Most bars were closed by 1am for lack of business. A few soldiered on until 3 with a handful of customers.

They'll be shutting up shop now.

I could see the Meridien and the Duangtawan over New Year and they were empty until 31st and empty by the 2nd.

There were pitiful numbers out on NYE. Mostly girls who'd probably come back for a few days in the hopes of making a few quid, fighting over a handful of tourists.

Now they've abandoned test & go again, expect numbers to plummet.

As for the "red buses", they are public transport and Thais still need to get around.
