Clearly this is harriets first real go at long term Thailand stays. Lots to learn and even more money to be wasted before he gets it.
Plus, what the hell does he expect a lawyer to actually do? No matter what even if he’s got an issue the landlord can do whatever the they want, even if it breaches the contract. Downside to living in a developing country with laughable law enforcement.
It IS possible to get a 1-year visa based on marriage or retirement within Thailand.
One can enter on the standard 45 day visa exemption and then apply at one's local office.
It's been mentioned frequently on here previously.
Yes, i did that during the beginning of covid, but a lawyer isn’t gonna do much for that other than review your documents that you’ve got to go compile on your own and bring to immigration yourself.
You can also swap to education visas too I believe.
TM86 and TM87
But this can all be easily accomplished from the immigration website and local immigration office.
How a local lawyer would play into these cases I have no idea but I’m sure most would happily take someone’s funds to assist.
Unless Harry wants to set up a dodgy company to own land, etc. — there really isn't need for a lawyer to read a rental contract for you, in my opinion.
Same with visas — unless you're trying to circumvent something, obviously.
The law firm might send a nice office lady to hold your hand when at immigration, though.

Quebec killer wins right to become lawyer - The Globe and MailMr. Brousseau was 21 when he killed his mother, Micheline Sévigny, in their home near Montreal, stabbing her 40 times
After being paroled in 1992, Mr. Brousseau attended law school. By the time of his fourth attempt to register in the bar exam school in 2001, he had obtained a pardon.

Rule #1 - Speaking from personal experience....
NEVER bring a lawyer to Thai immigration. It only pisses off the people you need to give you a visa.
Having said that, best of luck.
I'm not sure how one interacts with a bloke that stabbed his own mother 40 times then slashed her throat. Especially in a professional setting.
I mean, what do you do... smile, shake his hand, map out all possible escape routes while never turning more than 90 degrees from his front? Nodding and agreeing must be safer than disagreeing while there is still cutlery on the lunch table.
