    "Swanky".... "Pattaya".....

Reminds me of DD and his "Posh" restaurant reviews, which usually meant anywhere with paper table cloths.

    Khao Soi Wulai.

Out by the Saturday Walking Street.

    Googen Maps

Often up on the Best Of sites.

    Christ knows why.

    Though the view was okay.

Fitness wear, pic doesn't really do it justice.

    Looks.... okay.

Coriander isn't ripped, chopped. The fried noodles are too big and long. (and didn't taste fresh.)

the chicken was atrocious. Chopped up leg pieces.

Just serve the fookin' leg whole.

Minus the tooth picker (claw) of course.

The curry was bland and watery.

    Revisit the view.

    Hmmm.

    6/10.

    4/10 without the view.

    Yet, a clean establishment.
That should lessen the qualms of the negative Nellies and their dwindling stereotypes.

    Decent thread, Lu.

    Cheers.

Get yourself to Mae Hia market and try the soup lady in the food centre. Several kinds of khao soi and other soups on offer.

A wee Mexican truck popped up there around 3 months ago. They only do Burritos. But they ain't fokin' bad. 100thb and Dilly the Hippo would struggle to finish one.

    Probably.

The khao soi is good but not the best. The taste is very mild.

BUT, their goat biryani is to die for. You must try it.

Aren't these the 5 worst khao soi places in CM? Or are we building up to that?

You've only spoke well of one

It seems to be the case.

I've got 15 years to go to find the other 4 good places. You'll have died of old age, or boredom, by then though.

The burrito truck has been there at least 2 years. Very popular and pretty good. The food centre is popular with foreigners now since the market was renovated and Rimping moved in.

Was just up in Mae Rim getting some exhaust work done in a fantastic little backyard exhaust manufacturer.

    Home Motors.

They do fantastic work btw. Very well known in the area and rooms full of trophies (they run an off-road team)

    Google Maps

Anyway, while they're doing that I wander off, but don't make it far. This place is just next door.

Pop in to see what the score is, and there's a big vat of you know what softly simmering away.

    Yes please.

    Top notch stuff.

The only notable one in this thread bar Khao Soi Mae Sai.

Looking to take points off. The noodles were a tad under-cooked. The marinaded chicken was delish, but not as tasty or as tender as KS. Mae Sai.

Will give it 8.5 lulus out of 10.

Not worth traveling to Mae Sai for, but if in the area definitely worth the little detour. Which is lovely btw, small road winding through lovely country and village scenery, blue skies, green mountain backdrop. Life is good.

The only place to serve it with 2 chicken drumsticks as opposed to one.

    45b.

My favourite khao soy restaurant is in the back street around kad luang on soi kuang men near to the junction of Thanon chang mai tud mai, only sells khao soy and the usual nodle soup/dry dishes.
Used to be on the ground floor of warowot market years ago until it moved.
Family run and the old dad used to still work every day but on the last visit i didnt see him.
A good bowl of the khao soy cleared my hangover most mornings
