Lightbulb Heading back to the mother land

    Evening all,

taking the gaffa back home for a few weeks and thinking of starting a bit of a photo thread of the travels, i need to collect more posts to be able to get it done.

Arriving & staying in Chiang Mai first then to Lamphun to see what state the house and Beetle/motorbikes are in, then hopefully a little road trip somewhere.

Staying in the Duangtawan to begin with on the recommendation from another thread, thanks 😉👍🏻

heres to a few singha & some great food after a year in England.

    🍺🍺🍺🍺

Duangtawan was crap when I stayed there. Right in the tourist ghetto.

It will be interesting to know your opinion of the "Mother Country" when you get back.

England and Thailand are the last two places I would choose, to return to. Maybe they will be a few heading in the opposite direction now?

He asked for somewhere with a nice pool, easy access to the Lamphun road and near some bar action.

    What would you recommend?

^ I stayed in one of club rooms at Dungtawan last year.

Rooms were nice enough with a few drinks and nibbles thrown in at the clubroom in the evening.

Couldn't smoke on my floor, but if you went down a few floors on the elevator they had dedicated smoking floors for the Chinese.

Breakfast was a bit chotic, but made up for it with the Indian spread they had.

In the centre of town, so easy for night bazaar and all that jazz.

Used Grab to get around. Piece of piss to visit anywhere.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

I've only had one bad room in there - it was next door to the housekeeping room and the fucking phone started ringing at about 5am.

    Never made that mistake again.

Actually, forgot to add that the club benefits were not that great. You only got 2 free drinks in the club lounge per night. Not the end of the world as the missus doesn't drink, so I doubled up.

Maybe might do a thread about hotel club lounge and benefits?

I'm happy to give it a go, I quite like walking to kad luang in the mornings for breakfast.
i had looked on the other side of the river but didn't fancy the walk over the iron bridge if I'd had a few.
Only really staying in a hotel so there is no TM 30 hassle

Only really going because of the wife needing to see her family, if it wasn't for her I doubt we would be going to Thailand at all.

TBH I never used them even when someone else is paying. They're normally as dull as dishwater.

I always find the things a fookin trap.

Drinking the freebies is Ok but ya always end up over indulging in all the top quality yummy stuff they trot out.

Glad to never step foot in one again. Some very nice lookin Bints get in there though.

    Mainly with their sugar daddys.

As Cyrille has mentioned, the deafening silence in response to my question proves that you are just full of shit.

I can stay where I like.

    What's your favourite budget accomodation?

I know it's derailing the thread a bit, but clubrooms are pretty decent depending on certain needs.

I have never stayed in a clubroom at a beach resort due to my preference of eating al fresco and exploring the area. However, If in city for a night or 2 with the missus, then I generally grab a clubroom. Stayed at the Tower Club Lebua last month. Think I payed around 7k baht for the night direct with the hotel. Early 11am check-in with personel concierge, free food and booze (wine, shorts, cocktails and beers) in the lounge on the 52nd floor from 6am-6pm. The room had free mini bar and stuff too. After having the breakfast in the morning, I feel that I got my monies worth just in the lounge on the lamb koftas and gin tonics. Not a bad price for a 5 star hotel, even though it looks a tad dated now and should be classed as 4 star.

Or you could spend two grand on a comfortable room at the Taipan and wander down to Cowboy with 5 grand to spend (that's if you can get past all the little beauties at the massage places on the way, all of whom are quite happy to come to your room for a bit of "executive management").

Or at least so my friends tell me.

If flying solo, then yes, my friends suggest the same.

Can't believe how quiet it is everywhere, had a few beers last night & walked down to kad luang for breakfast, not much change from the last visit yet, off to Lamphun tomorrow so will have good look around.
Anyone got a good bar to recommend for a few early evening beers??

We have stayed in the Duangtawan for 2 night now & I don't see how you can really complain for what it costs, nice big room, large bed & a great swimming pool, you must have high expectations/expensive tastes or just full of shit !

Not much seems to have changed since the last time here, only really walked around near the Duangtawan so far though, heading to the house in Lamphun today so will have a good look around.

Everywhere seems to be very quiet, most bars only have a few people drinking if any.

Anyone got a good bar recommendation for a few evening beers without the lady drinks being pushed too much?
