I thought the Duang Tawan (or whatever it's called) was pretty nice at around 1400 a night. I can't see why you'd want to pay any more than that.
Thanks Marmite, found on the web, looks fine. Looks like a "highrise" I like them, lot easier to find your way "home"
Price I am not that concerned about, in the last 2 years I have spent $0 of my money on accommodation, I didn't want recommendations for $1000 a night suites or 200 baht fan rooms - so put a ballpark figure in.
Cheers
Duangtawan is a solid choice. Not the best in town, but excellent price for a good three star hotel.
I forget where I saw it, but yesterday I found a booking site that had promotions of 1000 baht per night for Duang Tawan for the coming week or weeks. You may be able to find it if you Google a little.
wasnt the one opposite the Pirates cove pretty good??

^ Mandarin Oriental Dara Dhevi & The Chedi Chiang Mai are worthed a look as well.
The Oriental and the Chedi are both five star establishments, but not as good as the Four Seasons, which is the hotel I would place at the very top.
But... the Four Seasons is impractical as it is so far out of town. I'd avoid the Oriental as well for the same reason even though it is a bit closer.
The Chedi has the advantage of being right on the river and only a short walk away from the Night Bazaar. Pricewise though, I believe you are looking at at least 7000 baht per night for a room at the Chedi.
Thetyim's suggestion is good too. Friends of mine stayed at the Tamarind Village in November last year and were very pleased. It's a so called boutique hotel; smaller scale than traditional highrise hotels, and more focused on providing a local experience - i.e. more Northern Thai style decorations.
Always book the Tamarind through a booking company. The Tamarind normally only quote rack rates.
That goes for all hotels upwards of guest houses really, but still good advice.
If you have your own company, calling their sales department and asking for the corporate rate will score you a better price too.
The worst rate is always the walk-in rate.
Tamarind were/are stupid.Doesn't matter who you call apparently, they always give the rack rate.
Thanks, more than enough info here, much appreciated
