    Chiang Mai Hotels

    Hi,

Brother and sister in law visiting in November and I'm looking for a really good hotel in Old Chiang Mai for one night. Recommendations please.
    Not too bothered about cost.
    Pool is good.
    Spa is good
    Parking essential.

The plan is to arrive around 12.00, check in, do touristy temple stuff, drinks then a really nice dinner somewhere.
We leave the following morning for the north.

I've gone through Booking.com and Agoda and there's just too much choice, so I thought I'd ask the experts.

    Cheers.

    I normally stay here:

    Vieng Mantra Hotel

Pleasant, not expensive and right by Tapae gate.

A year or so ago M'Sahib did a mini trip with a couple of friends, doing CM and Pai. In CM they stayed at Hotel des Artists Ping Silhouette and were quite impressed. The location was good, being next to the river and an easy walk into the old town. Standard of rooms and in-house food was excellent apparently.

It occurs to me now that I don't actually know any decent ones in the city / old town only some places and resorts on the outskirts or outside of.

So that's of absolutely no help at all, soz!

Second question, if I might make so bold. what's the very best restaurant, preferably riverside? Falang/Asia.

Gourmet western with a soupcon of Asia. But very bloody not cheap. And I mean that.

David's Kitchen. Was voted in the top ten in the world on Tripadvisor.

But you need to get online and book, it's very popular as you can imagine.

I tried to get in there over Xmas/New Year last year and they didn't have a table until the second week of January.

Ok, let's forget Davids, though I'm sure it's wonderful, amy alternative riverside or high altitude restaurants to be recommended?

I'm tending towards the The Inside House

The last couple of times I have been to CM stayed at the Shangri La, if you do stay make sure to get a room poolside, nice rooms and very quite, sure its not cheap - I was using up Shangri La rewards so no cost involved.

We found their helipad quite handy, but on arrival at the room the towels were unfortunately in that elephant shape, rather than my preferred snogging swans configuration.

I won’t be staying there again unless, like last time, the bill is covered by my youtube channel.
