    Retiring to Chiang Mai.

Things have sped up a bit, and it looks like I might be retiring to Chiang Mai in my late 30s rather than early 40’s.

So what to do. Would rather not:

    • Drop sproglette to school.
    • Start drinking.
    • Collect sproglette from school drunk.
    • Continue drinking.

At least not for the first 6 months.

So thinking of hobbies and activities.

    Cooking.

    Gardening/vegetable growing.

Studying – cuisines, language, history etc.

    Mountain biking.

    Off roading (trail riding etc.)

    Motorbiking.

    Small business.

    Charity work.

    Motorbike restoration.

Bit of property development if the will takes.

Offering friendly, courteous, considerate advice to people on internet forums.

    Montclair appreciation thrice weekly.

Gym and post gym 4 hands oil massage quart weekly.

Anything else advisable to pass one’s time oop North?

    Pie making?

Whats wrong with continuing to annoy people online?

As for trail riding, thats a young mans game that. I did the one in Pattaya. Got all the way up the hill and thought i was gonna die poleaxed on those hard mountain rocks on the way down.

Most, at your age, fill their daylight hours by working.

How are you funding your early cessation of 9 - 5 ing?

    Being considered.

Building a smoker, as well as tandoori and pizza oven would be long term goals for the garden area.

I will probably be moving out of CM soon
    My Condo will become available
    You could move in .
I can introduce you to all my neighbors and friends
You could step into my shoes and continue with my life
You could even have my teakdoor profile
Where are you living now ?
We could do a straight swap

I've been spending a couple months per year there, usually during the cooler October-January period.

If you're serious about motorcycles, there are some great roads, and you can do both day-trips and multi-nighters.

If you're into fitness there are some pretty good (not great, but OK) gyms as well.

It's a serious buyers-market at the moment as far as real estate goes- I don't think I'd start a housing project there with an eye toward selling or renting (you could do alright at the low end, I guess) in the near future- if you're looking to buy a place to live for an extended period, there are some good deals from desperate sellers.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Yup, spent a year there around 2005/6. About 6 months since, mainly doing bike rides.

Bought a condo there 2 years ago pretty much just to keep as a base for doing bike rides up there.

Would be interested in getting into off road stuff, would be a complete novice at that.

would need to pick up a little beginner's off road bike. Can prolly get a KLX250 cheap enough until I actually know what I'm doing.

Also getting into mountain biking would be of interest.

Think that's covered. Got one in the condo, and a home gym here that we would move up, and the houses we're looking at are in moo bahn's that have a pool and fitness center. Think having 3 to ignore is enough.

A bit beyond my interest level to be honest. Small scale home prepared wholesale might be of minor interest as a hobby after a while. Cheers.

    Not a sound suggestion.
More headaches than what it's worth, especially if the place is designed and themed to draw an expat/traveler crowd.

Not even amusing to contemplate, less pursue seriously.

On a similar note, I've been looking at houses in Hua Hin - which I'd buy with a view to AirBNB for a few years. It seems that from between 50-70k (sterling) one can acquire a three bedroom villa with a private pool just a kilometre or two from the beach. Living in the UK puts things into perspective. That's dirt cheap. That's an hour's work in Asda.

Has anyone gone the AirBNB route, and, perhaps more crucially, did it work? Or did you get your pants pulled down and buggered into oblivion?
