What, and you think I'd recommend a gaff I've never stayed in?

Stayed there many times. It's central, quiet, fairly priced, has some nice gardens, an old thai teak house and the owner is a very intetesting local pu yai.

And in all the times I've stayed there I've never had a problem with noise.

    So as I said before.

    You're talking shite.

    That's a fair point Harry.

However, after several jars and with a brass in tow, I was never likely to hear you let one rip in 24d anyway.

Star hotel not far from Duangtawan, seems to match your criteria

I've never been there, only a friend told me it was OK in this price range (around 1000/1100 in April) ... except there's no view.

Maybe best to check some reviews beforehand

Duangtawan and Imperial Mae Ping both not bad value.
However, I found wifi as good as unusable in both places
However for location they cannot be improved upon.

Wifi seems to be good near the lifts, drifts off as you move away.

Having said that AIS 3G works fine even on higher floors.

Plumped for Raming Lodge in the end.

Paid around 5700 baht for 2 rooms/2nights with brekkie (midweek start of April).

Tempted by the Duangtawan, but only there for a short space of time and really just need a clean bed for the night with a good location because am going to be spending the majority of time out and about rather than using the hotels facilities.

So you opted to pay more to stay at a hotel at the opposite end of Loi Kroh to the Night Bazaar.

    Which makes perfect sense.

No, I didn't opt to pay more. The Duangtaan worked out at just over 7k baht (no brekkie) comapred to 5700 for Raming lodge (inc brekkie).

    Which makes perfect sense.

It's a nice place by the reviews...

^Ticks the boxes for what I need.

Paid 5700 baht with brekkie today on Agoda. Not bad for 2 rooms/2nights

^ Fair play for holding your hands up about the misread.

It's pretty obvious the the Duangtaan is a notch or 2 up quality-wise than Raming Lodge, but for the amount of time I'm gonna be on the hotel grounds didn't make it worth it.

    It was OK.

If memory serves there's an English style pub 2 or 3 doors down which did pretty good falang food.

    Naah that's shut.

Chez Marco's is the best nosebag in that area.

Even Lucky Bar is a big open Music pub now, although it still opens fairly late.

It's not shut, it was called The Olde Bell and then became Welcome Inn, still does decent western and Thai food.

Good. "The Olde Bell" was a nicer name. Is it the same management?

Oh yeah I forgot it reopened after Pedr left.

Never been in the new one, never seems to have any customers when I walk by.
