Free Water & Electricity throughout Thailand for Six Months

Courtesy of HE The Prime Minister, water and electricity will be provided free throughout the kingdom for the next six months for all private residences...

this is aimed to benefit the poor and needy so to qualify you need to be under a certain usage level and you can be sure that this does not allow the luxury of A/C in your home...

however, my monthly water bill is about 120-150 baht and it does qualify so a doff of the hat to K. Samak...I guess he'll get my wife's vote in the next election which I presume is the purpose of this give-away...

Ain't heard anything about free leccy, but just got my water bill the other day and it was 0 baht and so is everyones elses on my estate, and houses here range from 2 million baht up to about 15 million baht, so them saying only free water for the poor is wrong unless they have just fooked up.

BRB: It's not about the value of the house, it's about the amount of water used per month...and as it's designed for private homes the level has obviously been set so most people qualify...the leccy we'll have to wait and see when we get the bill but my neighbours don't have any a/c and theirs was the great '0' this month whilst mine was the normal 1500 baht...

Only on some routes and does not include trains which are popular with foreigners like the Bkk-Arunyapathet or Bkk-NamTok (The Death Railway) routes even though they are 3rd class trains...

Water is only free if you get it directly from the local water co. (govt).

We live in an estate, of sorts, and our bill comes from the phuu yai.

Ours was 68 baht last month.

I took my water bill to the office not remembering this new benefit. It said 108B, I didn't bother to read the 0s there at the bottom. The office was ghostly empty, then I remembered.

I'd be glad to pay all of it, and the electricity too if it meant Samak would take a hike.

Don't know if this is correct or not but I have been told that

If your monthly consumption is under 120 units then it's free
If your monthly consumption is under 150 units then it's half price

IF that's correct then it would encourage people to use less electricity

How about if it's around 1000 units like mine?

Fcuking pisses me off, this subsidizing the poor. Lazy bastards should get off their arses and work harder, then they wouldnt be poor. It would annoy me more if it was my tax money.

Thanks Klongmaster, I did'nt know that..my TW does'nt always get the details right .
I think the Thais need help..many are barely getting by...but it's such a mixed message when you see the extragavent use of decorative lights..they should go for LED's like they do in Tokyo...last 50 x longer and use alot less electricity....

My leccy is usually over 5000 a month.

I'll keep paying it rather than take anything free from him.
