    KM’s Stop-over in Nakhon Sawan

    KM’s Stop-over in Nakhon Sawan

Nakhon Sawan is 240 kms North of Bangkok and as such it’s really too soon to stop if you’re heading North and too close to Bangkok if you’re headed South. However, on our recent trip to Chiang Mai we didn’t get away from Bangkok until four in the afternoon, which meant Nakhon Sawan was a comfortable place to spend the night.

If you’re driving you’ll need to go into the town instead of taking the bypass north, and turn right at the traffic lights. You’ll now be in the main street, which is normally busy with lots of traffic. It’s deserted here because I took the pic well early the following morning.

The Chao Phraya river flows through the city and it’s quite narrow up here, especially compared to its width further downstream around Nonthaburi. There were a number of people out fishing in small boats so the river must be in a healthy condition here.

There’s really nothing much to see in Nakhon Sawan, so this is just to show a couple of hotels in the centre city and somewhere to eat.

First off was the place we stayed at, called Pen One Hotel. The signs are only in Thai and the transliteration is mine. Look for the name in Thai in nice big letters on the wall. Will be on your right as you drive down the street.

It’s a typical provincial city hotel with basic accommodation and the ubiquitous massage parlour. It has secure parking under the building at ground level.

Rooms range from 350 - 500 baht, which is what we took because it has three beds.

A quiet stroll down the road took us to this local restaurant which seemed popular with the locals. It runs between the main street on one side and the river on the other.

It has a decent menu at provincial prices. The name of the restaurant ‘Big Steak’ was the only English on the menu but each meal had a small picture so it’s easy to choose.

Right opposite the restaurant, but set well back off the road is another hotel. It’s position makes it difficult to find when you’re driving, but you turn in immediately before the hospital which will be on your left as you drive along the main street.

P.A. Place Hotel is new and the signs on the road side advertise it as an apartment. However, it is also a hotel with nice modern rooms.

These rooms are 500 baht and are equipped with your own PC and free wi-fi. This is obviously a better place to stay, but like so often happens, you find the better places after you’ve paid the money for the first one.

Did you see the “The Birth of the River Chao Phraya” there??

They call this City “The Motorbike City of Mother Thailand”. Did you notice any? I did.

Late now, but will try to post more tinkings about that City.

It most certainly is, I use it regularly, but do not use the restaurant, they added things to my meal that was not on the menu, that was the first and last time.
Better jumping on a baht bus and go up to the Big C shopping mall, which has plenty of restaurants.

^ why did you pull up a ten year old post. Especially from a poster that is long since deceased?

Are you meaning me? How do I know the poster is deceased? I only commented in the thread because Nakhon Sawan is the nearest city to my home, and also as a newbie trying the forum out. If you are typical of posters on this forum, then I will not participate any further.
Are there any mods around who can tell this idiot off? I am only trying to help anyone who comes to Nakhon Sawan.

Yes I am. Did you take the time to read this?

    Bumping

We hate bumpers, if you bump a post that is old and add nothing of value to it we trash your post, remember, a smiley adds no value at all to any thread, neither does "great thread" or "nice pics", they are destined for the great trash bin in the sky.

That is the guideline but not all newbies know that.

Don't worry mate, you have had a typical TD welcome. You must be a Celtic supporter and that is ok with me.

My wife is from phichit, slightly more boring than Phitsanulok.

Nice to hear from you, not like that idiot keyboard warrior. Yes, I am a Celtic supporter, I do not live in Phichit, just the province, in a village about half way between Phichit and Nakhon Sawan. Lived there for ten years now.

I am actually Scottish but a bit ashamed to admit it, all my admiration goes to the Irish, they fought and died for their independence, while the Scots have not even the gumption to put a cross on a piece of paper.

Not a bad little town to stop in.

Don't forget to go up the famous 'Tower'.

Don't use the elevator, be a man and take the stairs instead. It's only a few floors.

Legs killed me for days after that. Foking tower.

Hang on about 40 more posts and you can send him red repos with big pics/gifs in them.

    That's much more fun.

I'll send him one on your behalf.

The trouble with bumping threads is that they may cause confusion in the minds of some posters. I refer specifically to those old timers who have been using multinicks over many years. They have to try to be careful so as not to be caught out and the sense of "deja vu" might impair their judgment.

It must be difficult using the multi-person technique but having to remember / be reminded of past posts may be a step too far for them.
