Maybe look up me old mucker tezza while im in the vicinity. See how he,s gettin on with the handbrake.

I can wholeheartedly recommend Chez Charleyboy near Hua Hin and his pork pie factory and the ferry that leaves HH and docks in Pattaya 3 hours later.
    Not cheap though for 4.

loads of working class and hi so Thais make the journeys at weekends.

This ignorance from those who have only stayed smack in the middle of Central Pattaya gets to me..Go stay at the Royal Cliff, south Pattaya: it's about 3k a night in low season or somewhere near there if you wanna pay less on that Pratamnak Hill above Cozy Beach and you will see it's not all whoremongers or go to Naklua which is North Pattaya at the cheapish now dated Dusit Thani or the spectacular Centara Grand Mirage with its own water park up that way.
I will show you crystal clear seas and pristine beaches a 15 min speedboat away.
There's so much for families in the whole area that I couldn't show you in a month.

Furry muff dill. Was tongue in cheek and not meant to offend yer good self Yes its easy to generalise about pattaya. Infact had an awesome stay there with her and the kids a while back. Think i might of done a thread about it PATTAYA. NOT JUST FOR MONGERS. Or something like that. We stayed in jomtien. Having said that theres no shortage of whores and wronguns eh.

You are correct. I have spent lots of time in Pattaya and prefer it to Hua Hin.

And even prefer Isaan to Hua Hin. Free family entertainment daily here. Buffalo rides, rat, frog, and fish catching. Not to mention free lodging in Norton's royal suite.

Ive never been to kanchanaburi and only been the once to hua hin. Looks like theres a bit to keep the kids amused ( waterpark etc but i suspect your right. There probably is way more to do in pattaya but thing is they have been already. As mentioned earlier on i had booked vientiane to bkk then bkk to colombo but had to cancel the colombo bit. ( refundable) but the vientiane bkk was a promo and non refundable. Thats when we decided to just make the most of it and have a wee jolly in Thailand plus its school holidays so keeps the kids amused with train trips etc. They will fly back to Lao and i will fly down to oz for a month to work and replenisb the Aussie pesos

The downside to Hau Hin is jelly fish in the sea at certain times of the year ,not as dangerous as raw sewage granted but certainly a consideration.
On the whole there is plenty to do for a short break without the risk of exposing the kids to the seedy under belly that is so common place in pattaya...

A quick 4 min video of Hau Hin..

If you've not visited before then definitely give it a whirl, you won't be disapointed.

I think Kanchanaburi would be better for you & your family Ratchaburi is small Thai town not a lot of English spoken.

2 must be near teenage boys to cater for..
Things to do in Bangkok, for them, Go karting at RCA, trampolining at Bounce Emquartier and surfing near k Village but all more Sukhumvit

Just looked at Centara Grande Mirage and never saw it so cheap before
5.5k with breakfast and there are two double beds in those rooms. If you declare 2 kids though it soars to 30k.

You may not appreciate my answer, but I’ve never heard of anyone traveling from HH to Kanch by train.

I just don’t think people do it, apart from the clueless.

Both HH and Kanch are decidedly mediocre spots only made even remotely desirable by a couple of months in bkk, imo.

And I was certainly in that position repeatedly in my decade + of Bangkok.

You’d be better of heading south from HH to Pranburi or Prachuap

Failing that, there are waterparks that your lads will like in Pattaya and they definitely have beer.

Well thanks cyril. It did indeed seem a headfuck to head for kanchanaburi from HH and looking at the hotel options in kanch floating or not . Seems if you add a couple of kids to the equation the fuckers (or agoda etc) take full advantage to royally fuck you. Anyway i decided to take Dills advise and head to pattaya by the ferry ( booked). We will see how HH and cha am turns out and if nothing else im sure the kids will enjoy the train ride to HH and ferry to pattaya. Only got 2 nights in pattaya and we wont leave HH until 4 in the avo so really only a day in pattaya..
Should be enough time to neck a few beers and sample a pie or 2 methinks
