    Tesco Lotus Kanchanaburi

i know this sounds a trivial thing but i have noticed how impolite the staff are compared with other tesco stores, no kwapoon ka/krup or wai at this store, similar in the 7/11's in kan so must be a kanchanaburi thing, traveled all over thailand and always found the staff in the shops very polite except kan
on a less trivial note i have also been short changed in tesco's in kan 4 times out of the last 7 time's i have been in there im sure this is a genuine mistake never had a problem being reimbursed when i brought it to the cashiers attention

    Must be in the water.
Well-known as to how mean-spirtited the sub-culture of Kanchanaburi might be.

When I was there I noticed this also. Then I noticed that a hell of a lot of service staff in Kan are Burmese and they speak nearly no Thai and don't walk around with the perma-idiot grin that the locals have mastered.

thank you for spending your money in our shop !!!!!!
don't know if the staff in thailand have to be trained to be polite, but in the uk it just comes naturally, i made a mental note not to be polite in return but it felt uncomfortable and i kept forgetting to be rude.
so here's to all the shop assistants in kanchanaburi up yours

Something I know they would respect. Never make your "expectations," greater than the sum total of Thai's that have given you a polite reply...hence, Thank you...for what? Doing your job. why, it doesn't pay any more for doing a good job or a half assed one. I'm a Thai at the lowest end of the food chain and quite honestly, Thank you's get you zilch! So Sir; I simply smile...a lot. Hope you don't notice the lack of sincerity in that smile?

i also noticed that in kanchanaburi shop staff are discourteous compared with other provinces, they seem to have this hi-so attitude
cant understand why just a crummy provincial town compared with places like chaing mai or phuket

I lived there for a couple years way back and can't remember the people being any different from other folks. It's not too far from Bangkok so there's probably a lot of connections to it. There have been a lot of tourists going through there for a long time due to the bridge story from WW2. And I heard it was a common tradition of Israelis to visit there after completing their military service. Not sure why that was but they had a reputation of being cheap 'kee nio' when bargaining.
