    Bobcock at Angkor - Again....

went back for a second trip to Siam Riep and the temples of Angkor, finally got round to processing some of the pictures.

First day we arrived about 10am and we able to check into our hotel immediately. we decided not to visit temples the first day and instead went to the lake at Tonle Sap. It was a pretty grey day and the photos are far better in black and white.

Firstly I was rather amused by these two walking home from school. Not the most conventional walk....

Thxs for those wonderful pics, I always enjoy looking at your works.

I wish I can be that good, but sadly not.

    Keep them coming!

Really Excellent. Black and white was a great choice. The one of the girl washing clothes is superb. Thanks much. Great!

Next we went to the temple in Siam Riep where they have a monument to the victims of the Khmer Rouge.

This is the temple, back to colour for a while now, though there is some more black and white coming up later.

wow...High praise indeed especially from bustak who's stuff I love.

Last 3 pics from Preah Khan, the first building is thought to be the library and is a two story building, and the last one was believed to be used for cremations.

At the end of the temple I started chasing butterflies for a while, there were loads.

I took this one andit wasn't until I looked at it that I saw that it had landed in a pool of light which looked pretty good.

All of them are 'Photoshopped', I shoot RAW I have to use Photoshop to process them.

I cannot produce a shot that hasn't been opened in photoshopped.

So I guess you should identify a particular picture and ask about that and the level of Photoshop used. Most are minimal, the sort of thing that would be done in the camera if shooting in JPG, some are not.

Beautiful shots, Bobcock... especially the 3 kids in the boat, and yes, the one with the old (wo-?) man next to the stupa and the offerings.. A green!

Next stop is Ta Phrom, the one the kids were most looking forward to seeing, famed for the trees that grow all over it.

I shoot nothing but RAW, I'm not interested in the camera having a standard crack at it for me, I'll make different tweaks in Photoshop Raw. Of course that is why this trip was in August and I'm only just processing them.

Incidently there are a fair few HDR shots in what I am posting now. once the nidday sun is up, the light is just diabolical so the only way to get the shots is by being imaginative.

Not gonna say which ones though, unless someone asks.

    EF24-105L F/4 IS USM
Shot hand held at 1/4 [at] f4
    ISO 100
focal length 24mm (full frame sensor)

She was moving (it is a her) and I took 3 shots, the other two she is blurred, but not enough to be intresting.

Last stop oif the first day was a visit to Angkor Wat itself, the kids (we had 4 with us) were getting a bit tired so for me to stop and take many pictures was probably asking too much. Did have a bit of fun taking pic 2 as it was taken with my oldest son hand holding the flash and discharging it upwards into the umbrella on the shout of "Now you little shit" after he missed the first few.

Actually I must say I do not find Angkor Wat itself particularly photogenic in comparison to the other places, it's large and cold with few splashes of colour, though with a bit more time to be creative I did have a better visit alone the next day.

And yes, this last shot is unashamedly a HDR and one that has been done to look like a HDR.

Next morning the families announced that they fancied a morning in the swimming pool, frankly that suited me fine so I ot the driver to pick me up at 0630 to get the best of the morning light and what turned out to be superb early morning blue skies back at the main temple. Also gave me the opportunity to get off the beaten track where I was alone and able to take pictures at leisure. the first couple are taken around the back with the early morning sun on the face of the temple.
