Trip to Cambodia, but no Passport - What to do ?

An interesting thing travelling to the pleasures of the Cambo border towns, but as luck would have it, you left your passport at home etc.

A fact is if you go to Khao Wihan Preah in Srisaket, when you leave Thailand, you get a little bus ticket to walk over to the temple that is in Cambodia. No Passport required.

Over there is all the dodgy booze and cigarettes you can dream of. Some good, some not so good.

You can also get a guided tour down to the road at the bottom of the mountain.

I only did this once and with cheap shoes and watch, but I swam in the sea wearing a suit and tie.

Yes it is a nice trip.
Lovely view from the top of the ridge.
Worth going even without the fags and booze.

If you get to the bottom of the hill, you are in Cambo proper. You will need a guide to get you down there. There are some knocking shops etc there.

Dr Dong, very silly thing to go down the hill with no passport. Would you like people entering your country with no passport. That is a geed way to get a holiday in prison.

Back from a trip at the temple there, the pics were on slide show at the home TV, beautifull place, 600 meter above the Cambodian plateau and can also spot Laos...

Really worthy trip, a bit of a few steps to reach up there but really worth,
this was while we had a small bbq party ( on TV ), and then

this gal started her never been invaded or never been colonialised proud very loud very rigth extremist speech,
"the french, they made the borders, they stole this from our Thailand"
this is Thailand Land... 50 years ago, as Daddy told her they collected 1 baht from each Thai to go support the international court returning this to Thailand never invaded land...

They lost it, 1 baht a folk was not enough unfortunately, the place is really great, she said this aswell as she was there 20 years ago... sorry for her but when i see people climbing shivering of anger for such remote areas and old cases, i get ermm ermm...

Wanna war again ? they still do some times around there anyway, this temple was reopend only back in 1998...

I was there just after they reopened. They were firing a cannon down on the plains below while I was there, which sort of ruined (no pun intended) the atmosphere a bit. Will see if I can find the pictures and post them here. It was a truely amazing place - would love to go back. Is the crashed helicopter still there? And have they cleared the area of landmines yet?

I would be worried that if you crossed the border without your passport and all of a sudden there was a change in policy, then you'ld be screwed.

I agree with Khun Sar on this as you are "NOT in Kansas anymore" or any other place that plays by regular rules. Anyone can do it and get away with it but then when you get caught, you start whinging. Just STUPID to do.

I really have know idea of how many differant border crossings I have done and have wandered into the country without finding the immigration point, this is by car and on foot, we are talking third world countries here not America which has the problems with illegal mexicans staying in their country but cant sort it out, hell I have even done it in malaysia and had to drive back 20 km to go thru the checkpoint.

I think the whole point of the thread was that the person KNEW that they were going to be crossing the border and did not have their passport with them. To me , it's just a dumb idea. If you're travelling close to any border, you should have your passport with you or be willing to pay the consequenses.

Agreed, unless you have had your passport stamped, don't try that stuff. After all, most countries have computers for immigration. So If I am an XXX country Passport holder and I go to Cambodia and say my passport is lost / stolen, one phone call gets the computer.

They say - Oh What your name - I say Salot Sar, Ok, next I go to prison, they never see me in the computer.

I carry my Thai DL and don't worry about the passport but then I don't go near any borders either. I have no desire to go to any of the other places, hell this one is corrupt enough for me.

I'm also not scared of being boiled and eaten by anyone.

Oh yea, sorry I didn't catch up with you on the Bike week trip. Got there and was too busy dodging rain and taking pics of the bikes. Will get the second roll developed and then post some pics (as soon as I find a way to scan them all and find a place to put them) Can't post off my computer or it would be easy.

I'm still trying to work out why people bother with software upgrades. They only seem to cause more problems....
