A Weekend at the Billabong, Phnom Penh

I popped over to Phnom Penh for a relaxing weekend and stayed at the Billabong. It was quite nice, but I felt that the room was a bit small for $39US.

The pool is well looked after and popular with guests and other expats in the area.

The place is owned by the godfather of Cambodian rugby; a nice chap called Larry. I went to see the Cambodian team play Hong Kong University on the Sunday morning. The Cambodians looked the better team, but narrowly lost 10 - 7.

The best thing about Phnom Penh is the abundance of quality, but affordable food. After a wee nap, I went to the Riverside Bistro, which is one of the most popular places to eat in town.

I had a pasta dish, which was filling, but rather bland.

I had my first beer of the day; a half of the locally brewed Angkor. It tasted better as it warmed up, which was rather surprising. Quite a fruity taste.

The staff were quite nice to look at, but did the usual 'avoid looking at any customers because they might need serving' routine.

There's a few museums and temples to visit, but I wasn't really interested in seeing them again. This is a peek at one of the main temples in town, Wat Phnom, on the Sisowath Boulevard.

The Boulevard itself is quite pleasant to walk along, but I had to get a move on as there was rain a coming.

I went back to the Billabong and got ready for the evening, where I would meet up with a few friends and the Pickled Parrot for more food and drinks. On the way, I picked up a can of ABC Stout. Only 8%, and very heavy going. A bit like those awful Belgian beers.

On the Friday evening I visited a number of bars and clubs with my mate and a Cambodian couple. I left them in the Heart of Darkness and went on my own pub crawl along Street 104. Fek knows what time I got home.
I didn't take the camera out in the evenings for obvious reasons, so apart from hundreds of rugby pictures, the only other one I have is of the Anchor Smooth beer dispenser. Not too bad as it wasn't as gassy as other yellow beers. This was at Sharky's Bar. The place was a bit grim, I thought, but it maybe improves when it gets full.

You should have just added tobassco, olive oil, parmy cheese, and black pepper... *sheesh*

I added Tabasco, but I couldn't be bothered to ask for the rest.

^ You must like miserable ones. The one next to her is far cuter.

Good thread, MtD. That stout looks like a sure-fire way to the shits.

    Camera details?

Very good photos, Marmers. Might I inquire as to the details of your camera?
    Thanks for a great report.

Only one, if I remember correctly, and she wasn't that friendly. I think he'd be safer taking his own there, which he would be able to do without any problems.

According to their website, "SEX TOURISTS ARE NOT WELCOME."
