    Phnom Phen airport taxi drivers

How are the drivers for being able to understand a non-khmer speaker to get to a business address downtown?. I haven't been there before so can't direct.

This should be in the questions section?. Sorry.

    Hello

When I visited last year, arriving on a busy Saturday afternoon, there were a fair few taxis waiting at the airport.

The first one I spoke to had no difficulty in understanding where I wanted to go ( hotel rather than business address)

His English was fine, gave me a bit of a talk guide whilst on way to hotel.

Maybe I was lucky, can`t say.

If you have the phone number of the business address, call it and hand phone to driver for them to give directions ?

If you feel uncertain about how to find the address in a taxi, you might ask the business for directions that could be understood by local taxi drivers.
I have no experience with taxis in PNH, but in Laos we have a similar situation. We give visitors a few words in Lao for taxidrivers to understand where to go.

Not only should you expect english, but chances are you'll get someone with a college education as well, anyway I did find my taxi driver to be well educated. You'll find even out in the countryside the level of education to be superior to what you find in Thailand. Also the Cambodians are much more motivated to try harder and do their best and want you to have a good experience in their country. Very different from Thailand in many respects when it come to their attitude with tourists.

I'll give him a go. Could need someone for 3 days.
When it says $10 does that mean they deal in dollars?.

They prefer US dollars over their own currency.

Carry some Riel with you though. It's good for small purchases.

I found some youtube videos on speaking Khmer including one starting from the airport.
Haven't been able to find anyone who doesn't speak english. Most people speak better english than those from english speaking countries.

Whats going on in Thailand? Full of english teachers but few good english speaking Thais.

^Knob, I just typed a reply to your OP but realised you'd bumped up a 6 month old thread!

Useful Khmer terms for non-English speaking taxi drivers:

    Bot Ch'weng - turn left
    Bot S'Dam - turn right
    D'too D'trong - Go straight
    Choop ti ni- Stop here
    Yeut Yeut! - Slowly!
