Thai border trade in January fell 10.76 per cent from the previous month, dampened by numerous factors such as the Covid-19 outbreak, said Keerati Rushchano, director general of the Department of Foreign Trade (DIT).


“Total trade value stood at Bt86.07 billion with Bt59.501 billion in exports (-9.44 per cent), Bt26.569 billion in imports (-13.57 per cent), resulting in a surplus of Bt32.932 billion for January” he added.

Malaysia led the country's trade partners in terms of revenue, generating Bt31.024 billion, decreasing 16.39 per cent from December with Bt19.599 billion in exports and Bt11.425 billion of imports. Trade with Laos came in second place, generating Bt24.06 billion in revenue.

Cambodia and Myanmar accounted for Bt16.784 billion and Bt14.203 billion while trade with Southern China, Singapore and Vietnam stood at Bt15.080 billion, Bt6.177 billon and Bt3.965 billion respectively.

“Growth in Thai- Cambodian trade continued in January with an increase of 8.33 per cent in exports to the neighbouring country ” the director general added. In light of the situation, the department would hold border trade fairs in border provinces to stimulate trade growth.


“We held a fair in Narathiwat province during February 13 and 16, and will organise another one in Sa Kaeo province during March 28 to 31” he added.

Border trade sinks 10.76 % in January
