Jilin-made trains get ready for service in Thailand
"The launch ceremony for the BTS light rail extension line in Bangkok took place on Dec 4 when new trains -- developed and manufactured by Changchun-based CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co Ltd -- were unveiled ready for service.
The Bangkok Mass Transit System -- which commonly known as the BTS or Skytrain -- is an elevated rapid transit system in the capital of Thailand.
Dignitaries who attended the ceremony included Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, and Wang Feng, deputy general manager of CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles.Company officials said the new trains adopt A-type stainless steel bodies and have excellent anti-collision and fireproof properties.
Full electric braking technology was adopted in the train traction systems, reducing the speed to zero without switching braking modes. Company officials said this offers more convenience to passengers and lowers the cost of overhauling air braking systems.
Designers also improved the air-conditioning systems of the trains to adapt to Bangkok’s high temperatures and high humidity.CRRC Changchun is a Chinese rolling stock manufacturer based in Changchun, capital of Jilin province. It provides one-stop services related to design, manufacturing, maintenance of rolling stock .
Since 2007, the company has designed 164 urban rail vehicles and 115 passenger trains for Thailand and local officials said it enjoys a high reputation among the Thai people."
