BANGKOK, 27 January 2018 (NNT) – The Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) announced its investment promoting measures in 2017 resulted in investment totals exceeding the expectations.
The BOI has revealed to the cabinet the total value of investment promotion in 2017 where the BOI has provided support for 1,456 investment projects worth a total of 641.98 billion baht, which is a 22 percent increase year-on-year and exceeds the expected amount at 600 billion baht.
Forty-six percent of BOI supported investments in 2017 are related to the Eastern Economic Corridor campaign at 388 projects worth 296.89 billion baht, while 61 percent of all BOI supported investments at 392.14 billion baht are related to S-Curve industries.
Japan, Singapore, China, the U.S., and the Netherlands are respectively the countries who requested the most investment support from the BOI in 2017.
The BOI has adjusted its projection for 2018 to be providing 720 billion baht worth of investment support to investors, which is 12.1 percent higher then last year. The figure is calculated from the expected increase of requests and the BOI's planned roadshow to attract more investors.
The BOI will hold a seminar on Thailand Taking Off in March to exhibit the country's readiness as a regional hub for businesses.
Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak urged the BOI to provide more investment promotion in the agricultural sector, service sector, and tourism, as well as promoting the investment in human resources development feeding to targeted industries.
