sabang,
Great place and looks comfy!
Unless i missed it----------what size is the interior? About 110 sqm?
You mentioned finding the original design on a web site? Care to mention the site name or a link?
Can you post a floorplan? With room dimensions?
Obviously I am interested in the design and I want to see more.
Do you have any photos from the early stages of the build when the foundation and columns were in place and showing the roof structure being erected?
These guys really built that house quick.
Great thread and story!
If you take the time to do the job right the first time you won't need to "find" the time to go back a second time
HINO
The size of the interior is 144 sqm hino.
No photoes of the roof structure I'm afraid- you've got the structural poles in this thread, there is a shot of some scaffolding being erected for the roof structure, but that won't help you much. We were only there sporadically during the building- local family were there checking it more.
My wife is trying to see if she can find the plans, if so I'll scan them- the website I've long forgotten. We just printed out a few, then settled on the one we liked with a couple of alterations. They're quite easy to find actually- just google developers like SP or Greenfield Villa's, or look up largish building companies.
Incidentally, if anyone would like to contact the Builders, just PM me. You'll need a Thai speaker though- they don't speak english. They do work throughout Isaan & surrounds. No guarantees of course, but i'm well pleased with them.
you did well sabang,
now tell us about your place in Pattaya
"a village about 30 km outside of Ubon Ratchathani"
Which way from Ubon ? My GF is from Muang Samsip, about 30 kms north along route 212. Father wants me to build a house on the farm, just outside of town.
Great thread Sabang. Very informative.
We're in Don Mot Daeng, off the road from Ubon to Trakhan. Sounds like your GF's village is only about 7- 10 km away.Originally Posted by mikenot

Your a winner all round with the house and the MIL !!
I was interested in your comment:
"The ultimate owner will not go there anymore, nobody wants to know the place because it is cursed or haunted"
Seems a lot of this mysticism once you get Upcountry - anyone know of incidents that have occurred with these types of properties that are cursed??
My biggest point of frustration upcountry that just about every block of land we have looked at that has a great location and panoramic views has a grave on it!!!!!
According to the wife and MIL, to build anywhere in eye sight of tomb stone is a big no no!!
Seems the Upcountry dearly departed have the premium land market sewn up!!
^ Yes, they are exceedingly superstitious. To me it's just an opportunity to buy cheap land. Bulldosz the bloody things and presto- no more view of a grave.
Especially regarding ghosts (phee).Originally Posted by sabang

^ A pleasure Tex. It will be with you shortly. Best of luck with the new love nest.
Thanks for the info, your place looks great! I really like the cage . I too would like to see the plans (with 3 bedrooms) My wife is going to Thailand in September to build a house and we are looking for plans now.
Thank-you
Jim
good job sabang, looks nice great place, great thread green on its way
could i get the number too please mate?
Wow i really do like your house, i would show the wife but she would be then on the phone to MIL and next thing you know it would be a done deal and heaven help me then ,
But i also would be interested to see the plans etc .
Looks like you had a good deal. Seems a fare price.
How does the MIL cage cope in a thunderstorm with the wind blowing the rain horizontal? Does it keep dry?
One word of advice. Check to see if the electrics are earthed. Many Thai "electricians" will not do this. If not it is pretty cheap to do afterward.
Thats what the other kitchen is for.Originally Posted by Lite Beer
I reckon I'll do that- the builders say it was earthed, but I haven't checked.Originally Posted by Lite Beer
^^ good question. How do you check if it's earthed ? and do you fix it ?
Bare in mind that I am also a dummy.
Are the electric sockets 3 pin?
Have you got a copper earth rod banged into the ground with a wire connected to it going to the electric circuit?
We got an electrician to bang a 3 meter copper earth rod into the ground. Change the 2 pin sockets to 3 pin and connect them up to the earth rod.
Our electric showers had the earth wires going into the roof going nowhere. They are now connected to the earth. Scared the hell out of me every time I had a shower.
Sorry not very technical but as said I am also a building dummy.
This bloke knows more than I do.

Every Thai MIL I have ever meet is a honey, I could imagine the ol Chinese ones to be a bit dragonian (I think I have invented new word) but the issarn ones, great !
Hi Mike here,
Loved your place.
In laws require a house.
This seems the perfect fit.
Please assist with builders details and contact.
My Thai wife loves it and I would like to
try to deal with the devil you know than the
devil I have not met yet.
Please assist.

Mike/Musty- PM on it's way. I oughta charge these builders a commission.
They've already started one house based on a referral from ourselves- dunno if it's a TD'er.
Well I took my Mum and Wicked Stepdad up to see the place last week, and give them a taste of village life. A leak had recently sprung that appeared to be under the Isaan Porch (actually it was under the steps going up to the Porch). Seemed like a tough one to fix- but Mrs got on the phone to the Builders. Amazingly, they said they would come down all the way from Khon Kaen two days later to take care of it.
And come they did, by which time a small leak had also sprung under the second bathroom sink cabinet, which is never used unless we're there. The Builder, Mrs Builder, their daughter- who had become friends with the family Kids, and a worker. This is pretty impressive really- KK is around 200km away. The leaks were duly fixed (the one under the steps required some jackhammering and reconcreting), and whilst they were there they plastered and painted over a couple of micro cracks- nothing structural- that had appeared on the outside of the house, which you would normally expect.
Amazing Thailand . This does not fit the usual script. Yep, I'm well pleased with these builders- who obviously take pride in their job, and the house is doing fine.
Drinks that night were on me.
Thank you Sabang,
Contacted ORR today and gave her details to go around to the
MIL Farm and check out a suitable site. It appears that the builders
are 5 to 10 minutes down the road. We are near Nong Rua.
For your information, ORR told us straight up front that the cost
of the building has gone up. Bricks had risen 12 per cent etc.
Given this information, it supports that you did get a good price.
With everything that is going on in the world. The price can only
head north.
Reading through your adventures. We will keep it simple by using your
exact design. Island bench, change front glass (opaque),
pick up on your whoopsies.
Good upgrades etc. Just perhaps having the 3 bedroom version.
Your thoughts on that Sabang.
Or any other suggestions.........
Anyway, they will quote now and I will let you know how it compares with
your price.
Thanks again,
Mike and Nussara.
