TD, it sounds like your gaff will be aiming for 6-7 stars on the Middle East hotel rating scale, very nice. I also like the Lanna style and do like the north of thailand but the whole burning air quality thing put me off, I used to visit Chiang Mai region regularly with a view to settling but put that idea to bed; its bad enough when some scrote of a neighbour burns the odd bit of plastic but weeks of smog you cannot easily dodge is another issue. Thats the real danger with buying permanently in Thailand, that said i do have a couple of plots in separate locations and will bite the bullet myself idc once i've decided i've had enough of work and think i have enough financially to ensure life is not a struggle

I won't say too much detail but i have a place in the vicinity of Bath, Somerset but i don't work where i live. I wish you and PJ every success and long years enjoying your financial and emotional investment.

My family home is in Clevedon and previously we owned a house in Abbey Green, Bath!

That Georgian architecture is wonderful, but I have had a lifetime of those houses so the Thai architecture really appeals now.

Plus virtually no chance of designing, getting PP and building the sort of house I want, in UK!

Factor in running costs and cost of living, climate, location - its virtually a no-brainer!

Nice, you know the area well. The West Country, inc Somerset & Wilts is a lovely part of the UK. You're right re PP & Building what you can achieve for the money and lack of bureaucracy in Thailand is incredible in comparison.

my FiL who is 86 and we think (coz TiT and Doctors aren't always the best) may have the Big C (not the shop) has randomly decided he doesn't want his room in the house he''s lived in for 8 years. Instead he's decided to use the wood (mainly teak) that i was stockpiling for my balconies to build himself a small house on the land. Not sure why, the Mrs can't get it out of him and at 86 we all can't be bothered to fight him over it and we've just let him get on with it. If he's got the power and inclination to start a build at that age fair play. if/when he goes i'll have to dismantle it and see what we've got left thats useable

All of that, right there and I agree.

I could have spent a couple of hours there DM, just pottering about, taking it all in. Love watching woodworking, etc.

I got a few tools but I'm no where near the standard of those guys.

It don't stop me trying though...!!

Back to the True wifi/tv issue. Have the wife contact them so they can come out have a look at your planned setup.

So...the good news is.. Bunthavorn delivered all the wall and floor tiles today, and now K.Pot & Co. have something to be getting on with.

He's moved some of the workforce onto other projects now as there simply is not enough work at TD Towers for them all. I have no problem with that.

He has been pushing to start building the boundary wall but my funds plan will not cover that expense until later.

So... hopefully I can retrieve the pix out of my troublesome camera and then...still to come:

    - TD towers from a new angle
    - what we did with the mango land
    - finishing the terracotta flooring
    - prep work for the Mae Daeng
    - re-doing the painting of the cladding
    - progress on that cladding painting
    - how he dealt with the valley 'tween zone 1 and 2

I had to find quite lot of funds this month, for items not in the quote - budgeted, but all coming at the same time so a bit err...'painful'

Top of that list was the 1st installment for the AC and security - 133,000 in fact.

The electrician was a LOT cheaper than the shop in BKK, and he's also fitting that security system too.

I like the way he does the cabling... doubt if anyone could do it better, hes here anyway running the power cabling so it makes sense for him to do it all.

Then there was 50k-odd over budget for wall and floor tiling. Although that's the first major unbudgeted item, i reckon we cannot skimp on this.

If we had stuck to budget , every day we would look and regret.

It's not a massive over spend, but we got what we wanted rather than what the builder's budget dictated.

So... its not a lot but I'm still paying for the Philippines apartments too so I guess I am having a lean month in October...

    ...probably do me some good!

lol...10 off-plan studio apts in Quezon city, Norton, on the Victoria line servicing Makati, which has no more usable land for building, and which floods over a lot of its area every time it rains.

It's part of the retirement plan (income not living).

    Will be completing around December

    Conclusion of the terracotta tiling

    never stops mixing...

She's cleaning as she goes.... lets see if its OK

    getting near the end

We are going to make a terracotta path here, from the boundary wall (which will have a gate), past the steps to the sala, and up to the edge of the Zone 2 downstairs.

Later, we will have a wall with a door along this back edge of Zone 2, but I will be doing that myself

'Ello, ello, ello.... whats all this then?

We were pottering about at the site when I glanced up and noticed this....

Our curiosity arisen, we jumped in the car and set off to see 'what had happened'. (obviously a fire, but what!?)

When we got there, turns out 'someone' had set fire to their facto.... a fire had broken out in a furniture factory / office complex (that apparently wasn't making much money)

Its amazing how often failing businesses are vulnerable to fires - lucky the insurance takes care of the poor owner...

Fire truck was there but in nooooooooooooo rush to do anything about extinguishing it!

Think I might fit a sprinkler system...

    New view of the house

You not seen the place from this angle before

Yeah... lookin' good... but how did I get this shot?

    Nope... no drone involved.

    Here's the answer...

Yes...there's been some err..'changes' to MangoLand...

In fact, we always planned to cut those trees right back, to encourage some new growth lower down.

Also we will be creating a double car port between 2 of the trees, near the house, in the future

Looking the other way beyond the Chonburi Hilton, see how overgrown Ms.million-baht's plot has become....
