Good to see you back and posting. I was wondering whether you are an Eskimo or not if you want to set the AC at 18deg.
I have ours set at 26 and I would like it at 28 but the missus wants 24 so we meet in the middle. It still feels like walking into a freezer after being outside for a while.
I don't know what size we have but its a Mitsubishi and works fine except the drain sometimes gets blocked (if I forget to clean it) and it then sprays water out the front.
I know the water comes from the humidity of the air but where the crap comes from that blocks the overflow I don't know.
Looking forward to some more pictures.
    Cheers

^ ootai, you may want to consider having AC professionally cleaned (every six months) sounds like you are prime candidates for Legionnaires disease.

We've had it cleaned and paid for it so that means it was "professionally cleaned" but whether it was a good job or not I don't know.
I learnt that if I just blow back up the drain pipe it clears and stays clear for quite a while.
Yesterday I blew up the pipe and there was quite a bit of resistance there which cleared, waited a while and then decided to give it another blow and just then the shit drained out all over me and some in my gob, tasted horrible.
Anyway I think is just the stuff in the air, maybe even some gecko crap but I don't think they get in there but it wouldn't surprise me as they are everywhere the little pricks.

Had a very good day yesterday meeting the owner of the sawmill/ timber import company near Pattaya.

Started off looking at planks of Mae Daeng st 9cm width and after initial resistance and "we cant do"..." it is expensive" etc etc be took us to the factory where lovely seasoned mae daeng planks were available at 20cm up.

Guess what we bought.. at NO extra cost.....

Good find. When you say no extra cost assume you are speaking about per meter2? All tongue and grove also?

I have Mai Daeng. Great stuff. Installation is key to making sure you don't have problems with moisture under the flooring. Nasty if that happens. Flooring boards buckle.

Yeah Norton...per metre....its good seasoned wood not warped or cracked. T&G from the factory.

K.Pot has bought from there many times. before. . Hes actually quite an expert floor layer...ok ok he's quite an expert everything based on what we have seen so far. The sawmill owner rates him too so...again...we struxk lucky when we selected him.

I saw your floor pictures which is what steered me towards Mae Daeng in the first place. Really fabulous....

Anyway..yesterday. .while we were looking at the flooring options, bosses daughter showed us some other planks of wood..much harder than Mae Daeng ( which we know is around twice as hard as. Teak and very termite resistant. .jeez...it bloody heavy too!)

I forget the name of this harder wood but it had a grain not so dissimilar to oak. I mentioned it would make good solid furniture.

" what sort of furniture are you looking for?" Says she

She then showed us a finished table top in said wood- very good grain detail as I expected.

Anyway.. I mentioned a 10-seat table with chairs which would be "no problem" depending on design which I would have to supply.

Ok.. my Christmas list includes that table. Oh .. a couple of bed frames. Some nice zone 2 seating.. and.. a kitchen if possible!!

We supply the designs they give the quote.

Now...Im not the worlds best kitchen desiner but luckily...I dont have to be.

I took my kitchen idea to Bunthavorn who kindly offered to turn it into a proper design with cabinet sizes, appliance dimensions and other options too.

I selected the option that lets me take the Bunthavorn design and apply it to the sawmill factory assembly team, giving me a solid eood termite resistant kitchen for less than being quoted from the originator.

Dont worry..I'm not totally cheating them. I will still buy the appliances there.

    Probably.....

I have a Daiken here at my house and the service is great. They're like dentists, calling every three months to come out and service the A/C.

They're good. A bit expensive, but the service is done right, we always get a bill explaining the service charges in English.

That's impressive..it's good to know that kind of service still exists.

Shows they are interested in a longer term relationship with the customer. ..not just box shifting and forget....

Yeah...they are more expensive but in this case.. they have a good reputation and I believe you are getting what you pay for.

So far I have not heard a negative comment about them.....

Mean time, lets update on some of the other stuff we dealt with on site:

Finally got K.Pot to walk the land mango so that he could tell us how much more the boundary wall was going to be now that it was including both original plot and mango plot.

There will be no doors or gates in the additional wall, and half of it will be at 2m, not 2.5m, lighting only, as per original spec

Original price was 370K, the additional wall pushed it a good deal north of 500k total, until the obligatory haggle and discount pressure brought it to 500k exactly.

This was what i had in mind as the actual cost based on my calculations from his original quote, I suspect K.Pot has learnt to bump it up a bit so that we 'haggle it down' to the figure we both thought of at the start!. ho hum, need to watch that.

He's not starting on the wall til after house and pool are completed.

While at the Orbortor office we came to to hear that the lady who bought the 1/2 rai plot next to us, and who hoped to sell it (to us) for 1,000.000 THB is now panicking a bit as she knows we are now arranging the wall!(just like Lady Mango)

I told K.Pot to do the adjoining boundary wall last - lets see if she blinks first. I am not paying 1Mthb

I know she wants to sell it for family reasons now and and has options for other land away from where we are.

Also met the electricians on site. we got the location for the consumer unit (distribution box) sorted out, and they began chasing out a route under the kitchen floor for the incomer.

Also discussed fan locations, and down-lighter locations and then Mr.Electrician raised up the AC topic.

So we then re-walked the building, deciding on the AC locations, and where the Inverter boxes would go. its much easier dealing with the person on site who might actually do the work, rather than a box-shiftier in BKK who never did a days work getting his hands dirty in his entire life. Quote to follow but sure to be less than Modern Air

Next came CCTV. what we wanted, how many, where, etc. I wanted a system that held a months recording before being over-written, yes...he could do that. could I have a camera feed into the office. yes i could. Cameras remotely accessed over the net onto , say a mobile phone? yes can do. and speakers to 'chat' with anone thinking of making an impromptu entrance? sure no problem. Quote to follow

Finally, the alarm system. i outlined my plans / requirements (not going to reveal that here, of course!!) and apart from the crocodile, everything was do'able. Again, quote to follow.

Was a bit sad about my crocodile idea. burglars would only come in once (mainly cos they would probably get eaten or at least lose a limb or two). i thought, y'know... clean n tidy. i might speak to some of those shows up near Chiang Mai - someone must have a spare crocodile just itching to get its teeth into a new vocation.....

Re your pool design, suggest you not go overboard on size. Bigger is not necessarily better when it comes to a pool. Plenty of smaller pool designs on web. And consider a 2 birds with one stone thing.

But maybe a little larger then an earlier thread of mine ... https://teakdoor.com/construction-in-...-swimming.html (THAILAND:- My 3,000 Baht Swimming Pool)

BTW ... David an the rugrats (two 5 yo twin boys) will be out near your neck of the Woods round Christmas time and have formally volunteered to road test your pool design

Perhaps OK, in case when intended to keep a crocodyle.

However, when intended (beside the envy of neighbours) for daily lengthy swimming to keep oneself in a proper physical condition (instead of torturing on gym machines) a longer pool is surely advisable.

And normally (for a daily 1 km swim) it is better to swim into the length than into the width...

Unfortunately I cannot get a long pool.

We are building a lagoon-type pool and it will have a diagonal swimming lane but only 10m in length.
